Middle School EL Summer School Teacher
POSITION SUMMARY:
The EL teacher will provide English language instruction across all content areas for EL students enrolled in grades 6-8 summer school.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, investigate, and communicate.
- Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
- Incorporate SEL curriculum and AVID strategies into daily check and connect sessions and ELD instruction.
- Develop and teach ELD content related to the program theme and in collaboration with team members.
- Design and implement strategies that encourage students to read independently and share their reflections about books with others.
- Utilize Schoology as a platform for student learning and family engagement.
- Create a positive environment to ensure successful learning for all students.
- Communicate with families to share information about program content and student progress.
- Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, site coordinators, and extended learning coordinator in order to resolve students’ behavioral and academic concerns.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic issues or special academic interests.
- Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families and staff.
- Supervise students during transitions between classes/activities, arrival, and dismissal.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
Required:
- Current Minnesota Teaching License in English as a Second Language
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated creativity, flexibility and enthusiasm to support students through innovative instruction.
- Demonstrated collaboration and relationship-building skills.
- Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
