Position Purpose
Special education teachers in ISD 200 empower students to build their independence by providing direct instruction in the areas of academics, functional skills, behavior regulation, social/emotional skills and daily living skills in a safe learning environment. Teachers are under the daily supervision of the building Principal and overall supervision of the Director/Assistant Director of Special Services.
Qualifications:
-
Preferred licensure: Minnesota licensure in Special Education: Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD), Mild to Moderate Mentally HDCP, or Developmental Disabilities

Will consider Minnesota licensure in Special Education: Academic Behavior Strategists (ABS) with experience working with students with cognitive disabilities

Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level and disability domains preferred
-
Experience and knowledge of due process paperwork including Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Behavior Support Plans, evaluations, and progress reports
-
Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with parents, students, staff, and administrators
-
Ability to perform routine computer functions, including using email, Google Suite and due process system

Thorough understanding of the laws, rules and regulations of special education
Job Responsibilities:

Employ high expectations for students using a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media

Must possess the knowledge of MN standards and options for supporting students in achieving those standards

Understand and implement learning interventions to meet the varying learning styles and needs of a diverse student population
-
Develop and demonstrate culturally responsive practices that lead to equitable outcomes for all students, particularly those groups of students that are over-represented in special education
-
Advocate for students with disabilities to ensure high levels of achievement
-
Provide instruction in strategies to support students in developing social emotional skills for success
-
Demonstrate proactive responses to support students with emotional regulation difficulties
-
Demonstrate current knowledge of various forms of assistive technology to support students in accessing the appropriate tools for efficiency
-
Collaborate with others to plan, teach and support students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment
-
Collaborate with nursing staff to support and perform the necessary delegated health tasks
-
Ability to direct the work of paraprofessionals and an understanding of practices for training and supporting paraprofessionals
-
Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations and institutions to support students and families
-
Facilitate effective IEP team meetings with parents and other professionals
-
Write and implement IEPs and Behavior Support Plans within the center based program and general education settings

Plan and complete comprehensive special education evaluations, including Functional Behavior Assessment
-
Proficient in meeting deadlines and managing daily record keeping and other due-process related tasks
-
Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete progress monitoring of student IEP goals and objectives
-
Complete and maintain certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training, provided by the district
-
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of weight
Additional Duties:

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or Director/Assistant Director of Special Services, and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
