Hastings Middle School Reading Intervention Teacher (Reading Lab) – 1.0 FTE
Job Description
- Reading Lab is a reading intervention course focused on students’ reading abilities.
- Students that are appropriately placed read significantly below grade level and meet the entrance criteria.
- The intention is to support students with needs beyond classroom differentiation.
- Class time is divided between direct instruction for reading accuracy, fluency and comprehension; independent reading; guided reading in small groups; and independent writing.
- Students interact with high interest text at a level that best supports their growth.
- Homework is not assigned; however, Reading Lab supports the students’ Language Arts, or other content areas,  after school reading requirements.
- Data is collected throughout the year to monitor progress and determine eligibility for exit.
Requirements
Experience with reading intervention instruction required.
K-12 Reading licensure preferred.
Other licensure potentially accepted: Middle Level 5-8 Language Arts/Communications
Successful candidates for this position demonstrate:
- Flexibility and high quality strategies with struggling readers in grades 5 through 8.
- Collaborative relationships with classroom teachers.
- Experience in gathering and analyzing data (NWEA Reading, BAS, as well as ongoing formative assessments).
