Position Summary:

As a Middle School/High SchoolSpecial Education Teacher at St. James Middle School/High School,  you will play a vital role in supporting the diverse needs of students with disabilities in an inclusive educational environment. You will collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure that each student receives a high-quality education tailored to their individual needs through co-teaching and pull-out services. This position requires a deep commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed.  

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities in accordance with state and federal regulations, ensuring that goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities, including modifying curriculum, providing accommodations, and incorporating specialized instructional strategies.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to design and deliver inclusive instruction that addresses the needs of students with disabilities within the context of the general education curriculum.

  • Provide direct instruction in small group or one-on-one settings to support students’ academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development.

  • Utilize evidence-based practices and instructional technologies to enhance student learning and engagement.

  • Assess student progress regularly using a variety of assessment tools and techniques, and use data to inform instructional decision-making and modify instruction as needed.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of student progress, including IEP goals, progress monitoring data, and anecdotal records.

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress, discuss concerns, and collaborate on strategies to support student learning at home and at school.

  • Collaborate with support staff, such as paraprofessionals, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists, to provide comprehensive support services to students with disabilities.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education, relevant research, and legal requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field from an accredited institution.

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in Special Education (K-12) or the ability to obtain licensure prior to employment.

  • Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a middle school setting.

  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and other stakeholders.

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace inclusive practices and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Dedication to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in education.

  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting the academic and social-emotional development of students with disabilities.
