Media Specialist-STEM Teacher
Grades 3-6 Specialist Teacher 
 

NATURE OF WORK

  • Designs and implements hands-on STEM (science, engineering and math) lessons to third through sixth grade students.
  • Designs and implements hands-on and authentic learning experiences utilizing best practices with technology including coding, educational tech, and appropriate use of technology for collaboration and communication.
  • Collaborates with grade level teachers to plan, integrate, and enhance grade-level standards in the homeroom classroom and in the science lab.
  • Provides standards-based, structured project based learning that interconnects STEM subjects.
  • Provides personalized learning support for individuals and small groups in core content areas 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Four-year degree from a college or university
  • Valid MN 1-6 multi-subject elementary teaching credential

 
IDEAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2 years teaching experience
  • Education coursework, professional experience, or interest STEM standards and project based learning.
  • Media Specialist license

  • Maintains meaningful positive rapport with students and parents
  • Manages a physical space that includes effective classroom management
  • Encourages student behavior that promotes character development

Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for All Students

  • Develops rigorous lesson plans that are driven by student assessment
  • Designs assessments that allow students to respond in a variety of ways to curriculum that’s taught
  • Implements interdisciplinary units
  • Ensures that students display knowledge of grade-level content standards
  • Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration

 Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning

  • Consistently implements agreed-upon programs
  • Implements IEPs and 504 plans
  • Develops, implements, and assesses student learning with regards to their learning targets
  • Designs and implements activities that encourage higher-level thinking
  • Differentiates lessons to meet students’ needs

Communication

  • Maintains regular communication with staff members & parents 
    • Respond to communication within 1 work day
    • Collaborate with faculty on lesson plans and objectives
    • Keep individual contact with parents
    • Generate newsletters and update website regularly
    • Communicates with students in an effective and appropriate manner
    • Builds positive relationships with parents
    • Handles confidential information in a responsible and professional manner

Offers programs that extend beyond the general curriculum

  • Develops courses which align with standards in the area of focus 
  • Collaborates as a staff to offer a balanced variety of courses across subject courses and grade levels
