This position is for an Elementary Licensed teacher who has a humanities focus, passion for social studies, and experience with developing reading skills. The teacher will provide instruction to students in grades 5 and 6 though a multigrade classroom. Specifically, the teacher will teach combined Language Arts and Social Studies (LASS) classes.

Job Description:

This position is for an Elementary Licensed teacher who has a humanities focus, passion for social studies, and experience with developing reading skills.  The teacher will provide instruction to students in grades 5 and 6 though a multigrade classroom. Specifically, the teacher will teach combined Language Arts and Social Studies (LASS) classes. 

  • Implement daily Language Arts and Social Studies lesson plans and continually assess student development and performance.

  • Teach a curriculum aligned with the Minnesota Social Studies standards that is integrated with language arts, critical literacy, and engages students in deep discussion and thinking about the deconstruction of race, class, and gender in our society.

  • Provide community building and social emotional learning in a daily advisory class.

  • Contribute to an educator-led community by participation in various staff meetings and duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Minnesota licensure for Elementary K-6 

  • Passion for critical literacy and the deconstruction of race, class, and gender

  • Feminist thinking and pedagogy and social justice minded

  • Desire to work with middle school students

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Committed to creating a culture of inquiry

  • Inherent belief in the ability of all students to learn and achieve success

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree

  • Experience with interdisciplinary teaching and learning

  • Experience working collaboratively with a team of teachers/staff

  • Experience working with middle school students in an urban setting
