POSITION SUMMARY:

Develop and conduct parent education discussion groups in cooperation with other team members. 

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plan and facilitate discussions in parent education classes, which meet the needs and interests of the individual groups.

  2. Cooperatively team with the early childhood teacher and paraprofessional during parent/child time.

  3. Plan family-focused integrated curriculums using the Parent Education Frameworkm Early Childhood Indicators of Progress/TS Gold with team members.

  4. Serve as a model for parent/child interaction.

  5. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, children, support staff, and the Coordinator.

  6. Maintain an inventory of materials for the parent program, and process requests through the Site Coordinator.

  7. Instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the time designated, including evenings and weekends.

  8. Perform evaluation of the classes and instruction routinely.

  9. Participate in group development and evaluation as requested.

  10. Attend staff and site meetings as required.

  11. Participate in outreach activities and programming as needed.

  12. Keep informed on current trends in the ECFE field through in-service training.

  13. Other duties as assigned.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

 

Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree.

  2. Minnesota State Board of Teaching Parent Educator License or Early Childhood Family Educatior License.

  3. Training or experience in parent group facilitation and education.

  4. Teaching experience in developing and implementing curriculum for parents of children Birth to Five Years.

  5. Group leadership skills for parent and/or child groups.

  6. Good organizational skills.

  7. Good communication skills.

  8. Ability and desire to teach under the team concept.

  9. Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.

  10. Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
