Description

The Brooklyn Center Community School (BCCS) District is seeking a Child Care Lead Teacher Float. The Child Care Lead Teacher Float will provide classroom support, plan and lead classroom activities and projects, supervise children, coordinate parent communication and maintain program records. Work is performed under the general direction of the Child Care Programs Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver age appropriate care to meet the social, emotional, and intellectual needs of children enrolled in all Child Care programs

  • Perform duties within scope of authority and training, and in compliance with BCCS policies and quality standards: specific duties may vary according to job assignment.

  • Deliver classroom and recreational services: assists with attendance, work assignments, clerical duties, behavior management, and classroom preparation and set up.

  • Assist in creating a nurturing, educational and recreational experience where children are encouraged to develop social skills, independence, and confidence.

  • Maintain positive interactions between parents and children. 

  • Assist in implementing and communicating curriculum and schedules of events.

  • Support students by reinforcing positive behavior, providing individual assistance, and encouraging socialization and good language communications.

  • Perform clerical duties, maintains and organizes files, keeps records and assists with reports.

  • Provide customer service to parents and guardians: assists with parenting skills and developmental issues, answers questions, and explains school rules.

  • Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and staff: acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

  • Enthusiastically promote the District’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures. Maintains absolute confidentiality of work related issues, records and information.

  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as needed basis.

  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 

  • Ability to deliver articulate and verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • Ability to relate to, establish and maintain effective working relationships with people (staff, students, parents and the general community) of different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to multitask, manage deadlines, set priorities and work independently.
  • Ability to manage, supervise and support staff; Skilled in supervision of students and adults, strong communication skills and strong technology skills. 

Qualifications: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some experience working with children
  • At least 12 qualifying credit hours in child care related field.
  • Able to travel short distances between child care sites and/or training events

Pay and Benefits: Competitive pay and benefits package.

Duty Days: Monday- Friday on all school days and teacher duty days unless otherwise specified.

Working Conditions and Physical Efforts: Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and exposure to bodily fluids; may be required to wear a mask during a pandemic outbreak; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
