Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

POSITION SUMMARY:
 
Assist Occupational Therapists in the delivery of services to students with special needs who have been identified as needing occupational therapy as a service related to their special education needs.
 
 

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Collect information regarding a child’s performance using various methods from multiple settings and sources
2. Assist in developing goals related to academic and nonacademic performance and recommend OT service delivery when educationally necessary (Individualized Education Plan-IEP).
3. Assist with developing activities and time lines for the developmental outcomes (Individualized Family Service Plan-IFSP), or write objectives that reflect the student’s needs in the educational setting (IEP).
4. Assist in developing an OT intervention plan.
5. Assist in planning for and delivering OT services according to the frequency and duration listed on the IFSP or IEP.
6. Assist in developing and implementing a plan of data collection to provide objective basis for decision making.
7. Provide intervention that enhances the child’s functional abilities.
8. Recommend altering intervention plans as indicated by a child’s performance.
9. Contribute information in meetings, conferences, and informal interactions as requested.
10. Document child’s performance, phone calls, meetings, and such in child’s OT record.
11. Assist in providing appropriate training to family and non OT personnel who supply activities within the daily routine.
12. Other duties as assigned.

 
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
 
Required:

1. Certification by the State of Minnesota as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
2. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance
3. Ability to perform routine computer functions, including the use of email and Microsoft Word
4. Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
5. Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.

 
Desired:

1. Experience working in the education field.

Proven ability to work with students ages birth to 21.
