Brooklyn Center Community Schools is hiring Youth Garden Interns. This position is available for Brooklyn Center Community Schools students in grades 10-12. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support the maintenance and function of the Brooklyn Center Elementary and Brooklyn Center Secondary school gardens by watering, weeding, planting, harvesting, pest management, etc. 
  • Support school garden community engagement efforts and initiatives. This may include planning and coordinating a farmers market, planning and teaching lessons and workshops for community members of all ages, hosting taste tests/cooking activities, and organizing special garden events.
  • Support marketing efforts by managing website content, creating fliers, etc.
  • Support teachers and teaching artists in facilitating garden activities with students.

Working Conditions:  Must be able to be outside daily for long periods of time, and complete manual labor.

Pay: $14.00/hour
Dates:  June 27th- August 9th (Could possibly go into October as well.)

Position Details:

  • Days and times: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 am to noon.
  • Transportation: Interns must provide their own transportation to and from Brooklyn Center Middle/High School STEAM.  Interns will be transported to other locations (Elementary, ECA, Gale Woods Farms) in the Three Rivers Parks van, driven by Hana Blissett.
  • Interns must come prepared each day with the following: hat, sunscreen, water bottle, snacks if you need/want them, protective shoes, clothes that can get dirty and protect from the sun
