Position: Supervisor of Transportation
Work Schedule:  12 months, 261 Contract Days
Start Date:  ASAP

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combinaton of education, training, and experience
  2. Three years supervisory experience
  3. Experience with transportation budgeting and management responsibilities
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  5. Experience with computerized routing systems
  6. Proficient with technology and experience with multiple software programs including: Skyward, Infinite Campus, Frontline, Google Suite, and Microsoft Suite
  7. Ability to meet deadlines, multi-task with frequent interruptions, and work under pressure
  8. Valid driver’s license & evidence of insurability
  9. Experience in working with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  1. Experience working in school district transportation management
  2. Commercial driver’s license (CDL)
  3. Experience with computer routing systems
  4. Three years’ experience managing a bus transportation operation
  5. Experience in Restorative Practices

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the recruitment, hiring, supervision, work assignments and evaluation of personnel assigned to transportation.
  2. Develop and implement appropriate in-service and orientation programs for principals, department heads and other District personnel using the transportation services.
  3. Provide data, prepare specifications and assist with the negotiations of contracts with private carriers as needed; Monitor and ensure compliance with contract terms.
  4. Develop and maintain a schedule for vehicle replacement.
  5. Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the transportation budget; provide annual line item budget to Director for approval and inclusion in the overall budget process; responsible for effective and economical delivery of transportation services to ensure little or no impact on the general fund.
  6. Evaluate the effectiveness of the transportation planning and routing software system and recommend changes as appropriate.
  7. Ensure the school bus fleet is maintained according to state standards for safety and operability.
  8. Guide the routing process, sequencing and route assignments to District drivers and contract carriers.
  9. Direct driver orientation meetings and monthly communications as necessary.
  10. Communicates information and instructions to staff (e.g. schedules, route changes, road conditions/detours, emergencies, etc.).
  11. Review District transportation policies on a regular basis, and recommend changes as appropriate.
  12. Accumulate necessary data for state reports; complete all information, process documents and file reports in a timely manner; Includes state transportation report and county hazardous waste report.
  13. Maintain a system for monitoring route and vehicle costs; evaluate costs between contractors to ensure a competitive atmosphere is maintained.
  14. Investigate all accidents and file reports with insurance carrier as needed.
  15. Work with principals of public and non-public schools on start and end times to ensure efficient and timely deliveries of students to respective schools.
  16. Work closely with all building administrators to resolve operational problems in transportation.
  17. Work with the Special Services department, attend IEP meetings, parental meetings and provide input relative to transportation needs, requirements and availability of services.
  18. Coordinate annual meeting with non-public schools as required by Minnesota statutes.
  19. Field concerns/questions from parents; Work to resolve issues.
  20. File for FCC license and ensure compliance.
  21. Maintain accurate inventory records of fuel, supplies, etc.; Initiate purchases as necessary.
  22. Other duties as assigned
