Wayzata Public Schools is currently seeking General Paraprofessional, Special Education Paraprofessional and Administrative Professional substituites to provide a variety of secretarial, classroom, lunchroom, and recess coverage in absence of our full-time paraprofessional staff.  Opportunities exist to sub in both schools and district buildings. 

Position Description:
General Para substitutes will most likely provide coverage during lunch/recess or PLC time and will work with classroom sized groups of students providing direct supervision. This will include providing outdoor supervision in all types of weather conditions. Lunchroom paras can expect to supervise large groups during lunch – helping students go through the food line, supervising students with dietary restrictions, and general behavior management.  

Administrative Professional Subs will provide a wide variety of front office and receptionist support for schools and district buildings.

Special Education Para Substitutes work with children with special needs ranging from ages 2 to 18.  These children come with a variety of needs including but not limited to:

  • Academic
  • Communication
  • Physical and motor
  • Personal – care
  • Social/emotional

The sub para often works with students in a general education classroom setting and support the students by adapting and modifying the learning environment and materials as needed.  Assisting the student with personal care (moving, eating, toileting) may also be a part of the role so it is important the sub para is physically able to perform all tasks.  Students easily distracted or easily frustrated are supported by the sub para through positive behavior intervention strategies.  The sub para will follow a plan prepared by the para whose position they are filling.  Special Education and Classroom teachers provide assistance as needed.

Requirements:
Ideal candidate will have previous experience working with elementary aged children or have office experience.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
