Compensation:  $20.23/hr

Description:   South Washington County School District seeks Bus Assistants for substitute and routes.  Morning and/or afternoon hours may be available

  • Substitute and PT routes- 6-9:30 AM 10 AM – 1 PM and 1:30-4:30 PM (hours can vary by assigned route)
  • Paid training

  • Work a school calendar with the option of summer work if available

POSITION SUMMARY:
 
Assist School Bus Drivers in transporting students with special needs.
 
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist drivers of Special Education buses with any special care and attention students may need.
  2. Secure all students in car seats and wheelchairs.
  3. Ensure all students are seated and use seatbelts (when provided).
  4. Assist with safe loading and unloading of students with special needs.
  5. Assist bus driver with pre-trip inspection as requested prior to leaving the transportation facility.
  6. Assist bus driver with post-trip inspection as requested after each route.
  7. Assist in the evacuation of students in the case of an emergency.
  8. Assist bus driver in reporting discipline issues to the transportation manager.
  9. Follows the policies and procedures in accordance with the South Washington County Transportation Department Handbook and the provisions listed in the Bus Driver/Assistant Employee Contract
  10. Other duties as assigned.

 
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
 
Required:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Ability to interact with all ages of children.
  3. Ability to work and interact with special needs students
  4. First Aid/CPR training
  5. Ability to regularly lift 40 pounds
  6. Positive interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
  7. Fully participate in training as requested
  8. Ability to perform routine computer functions, including the use of email and Microsoft Word
  9. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance
  10. Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
  11. Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
