WORK YEAR:  Full-time, 260 days; 8 hours per day; with flexibility to attend weekend or evening outreach events; Typical day approx. 8:00 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.

CLASSIFICATION: Rochester Operations Professional – Exempt, C-4-2

2024 SALARY RANGE: Estimated $61,598 to $86,238, depending on qualifications

This position is responsible for working in partnership with families and youth experiencing homelessness. They will work with families, school sites, the district and community organizations to identify strengths and areas of growth in student support and achievement, programming, and professional development. The position will ensure the delivery of mandated services to facilitate student attendance and access to appropriate education. Position assesses students and families assets and needs; works as a collaborative partner to develop intervention strategies; oversees case management; monitors student progress; and makes referrals to internal and external agencies and staff. Position acts as a resource to school staff and as an advocate to students and families experiencing homelessness. A successful candidate believes in all people and works in partnership with youth and caregivers to meet the individual needs of families while fostering hope and independence.

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Identify and assist youth and families who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence under the educational definition of homelessness
  • Serve as a bridge between the schools and families to ensure immediate school enrollment and remove barriers to school access
  • Act as a consultant to teachers, administrators and other staff regarding students experiencing homelessness
  • Monitor students’ academic progress and attendance and work with other building staff to develop academic success plans for students
  • Coordinate services with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that students and youth experiencing homelessness enroll in school and have the opportunity to succeed academically
  • Attend MDE McKinney Vento Training and participate in McKinney Vento networking opportunities
  • Establish and develop strong community relationships to provide students and families with appropriate resources
  • Provide leadership and collaboration with Homework Starts with Home, Olmsted County HOPE program, and other partner services
  • Collaborate in data review with district staff and identified community partners
  • Supervise RPS Youth Housing staff
  • Prepare and manage relevant grants in collaboration with Title I Coordinator
  • Facilitate professional development for staff providing services under McKinney Vento
  • Attend building staff meetings and other meetings involving students as requested
  • Act as a point of contact for students in Foster Care

EXPERIENCE AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred
  • Basic understanding of school district operations and community resources
  • Knowledge of and experience working with historically marginalized populations
  • Experience working with students and families experiencing homelessness preferred
  • Strong skills in areas of organization, written and verbal communication, collaboration and relationship building; in-person and virtually
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to see big picture and manage details
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents and community members
  • Strong technology skills, including spreadsheets, other means of communicating and documenting critical program data (RPS uses Google Suite)
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize, work under pressure, work with frequent interruptions, and work independently
  • Ability to develop and maintain a working knowledge of McKinney-Vento Legislation, Fostering Connections, Elementary and Secondary Education Act and other relevant laws and policies
