Teacher Aide Job Description

OVERVIEW

A teacher’s aide employed at STARS Early Learning Academy will support teachers and assistant teachers with all aspects of the planned program.  He/she will exhibit patience,
encouragement, and compassion equally to all students.  In addition, this individual will aid in instruction, preparation, and cleaning of the classroom as well as give positive
guidance to students.  He/she will engage with students in listening, reading, and playing. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 16 years old, work under the supervision of a teacher or assistant teacher except when the aide is assisting with the supervision of sleeping children or                                                                                                                   assisting with washing, toileting, or diapering children.
  • Must enjoy working with children ages infants to school age.

  • Be an effective communicator.

  • Preferred previous experience in an early childhood or elementary classroom setting.

  • Energetic, patient, encouraging, compassionate and professional.

  • Certified in pediatric CPR and First Aid.

  • Mobility required to ensure the safety of children.

  • Lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Background study clearance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Arrive to work on time.
  • Supervise children for safety.

  • Provide support to the teacher and assistant teacher.

  • Aid in the instructional efforts of the teacher.

  • Assist the teacher in preparing for transitions and activities.

  • Listen, read, and play with children.

  • Give guidance to students to complete tasks.

  • Keep the classroom environment clean and orderly by picking up learning materials, wiping down tables, etc.

  • Support teachers in managing classroom behavior.

  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Willingly work in different classrooms as ratio compliance dictates.

  • Model appropriate behavior and language.
