Description:  Under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), will work to provide direct instruction for students who qualify for speech/language services under the MN Special Education Speech Criteria; serve as a member of the educational team by consulting and collaborating with the supervising SLP, school staff, Special Education team, and other staff regarding services to students.  Responsible for providing direct, and indirect/consultative speech/language therapy services in accordance with a student’s Individualized Educational Plan (IEP); and adapt school and classroom environments, tools, and materials in collaboration with the SLP to improve student communication.

Job Summary:  

  1. Meet regularly with supervising SLP to coordinate services, maintain timely documentation of services, update student information, and design therapy materials for intervention.
  2. Provide direct services targeting speech/language goals and objectives in student IEPs.
  3. Develop lesson plans, prep materials, and make visuals for speech services provided to students.
  4. Provide documentation of student services progress reports, annual IEP present levels of performance, and suggestions for skills to target in goals/objectives for review by SLP.
  5. Provide indirect services to assist with transitioning skills into general education classroom.
  6. Conduct/assist with articulation screenings, including scheduling student sessions.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Associates degree from a speech-language pathology assistant program that is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges or its equivalent as approved by the commissionor
  2. OR a Bachelor’s degree in the discipline of communication sciences or disorders with additional transcript credit in the area of instruction in assistant-level service delivery practices and completion of at least 100 hours of supervised field work experience as a speech-language pathology assistant student
  3. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication with staff, students, and parents that is maintained during high-stress and crisis situations
  4. Ability to create and write correspondence, and other communication materials
  5. Strong technology/computer skills
  6. Ability and willingness to work with students receiving SLP services
  7. Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff; accepting feedback from SLP/Supervisor while continuing to maintain good relationships
  8. Ability to travel between buildings during the duty day may be required – work may take place in multiple school sites
  9. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
  10. Ability to maintain regular attendance, which includes completing an assigned day
  11. Ability to perform posltion responsibilities including physical factors, work devices and materials handling, data functions, and people functions
  12. Must be physically working in the building/onsite
  13. Speech Language Pathologist Assistant Certification preferred

Working Conditions:

Work is performed under normal office conditions and there are minimal environmental risks or disagreeable conditions associated with the work.  Work involves continuous contacts and interactions with the public, staff, outside agencies, district administrators and others which can involve some disagreeable human interactions/conflicts.
