Lionsgate Academy is a public charter school open to students of all abilities in grades 7 through 12. Lionsgate’s programming is inclusively designed to address the unique learning needs of students living on the autism spectrum as well as students with other learning differences.

Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing direct instruction in their academic content area; developing curriculum maps and designing lesson plans; differentiating material to meet student’s specific needs; and academic goals,and administering formative and summative assessments related to subject matter. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for supervising the students within their classroom and creating meaningful classroom reinforcement systems. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.The Special Education Teacher is responsible for writing and managing student's’ academic goals on their IEP; collaborating with IEP team members; assure student’s IEP services are being met within academic areas; and reporting progress toward academic goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with student’s IEP team members including staff and families, through in person meetings, via email, and by telephone

  • Provide direct instruction and support towards student IEP goals and academic content area.

  • Provide direction to MHBAs on student specific plans and their role in supporting students in different transition settings (classroom, job site, community)

  • Maintain positive, professional relationships and use appropriate verbal, nonverbal, and written communication with all individuals.

  • Attend student focused meetings

  • Track and meet timelines for due process dates and organize due process paperwork

  • Monitor due process documents for accuracy and compliance

  • Organize and oversee data collection for academic goals and objectives

  • Attend IEP meetings, prepared to share student progress toward IEP goals and progress within classroom environment.

  • Determine present levels of performance and write standards based goals

  • Prepare and implement lessons using best practices

  • Create meaningful lesson plans that address a wide range of learners and learning styles.

  • Work with other staff members in implementing accommodations and modifications

  • Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management by providing an inviting, exciting, innovative, and challenging learning environment

  • Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on students as required by law, policies, and administrative regulations

  • Regular, prompt attendance

  • Management of time using google calendar.

  • Strong computer skills and administration (ex: google programs)

  • Participates in professional growth activities including conferences, workshops, coursework, trainings, committees, etc.

OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Substitute staff absences, as needed
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Possession of a valid Minnesota teaching license in Special Education

  • Ability to operate a computer and the software necessary to complete required job tasks

  • Experience with the following programs: CPI, Nurtured Heart, Re-Ed Principles, PBIS, or other programs that contribute to positive behavioral strategies, or willingness to be trained

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minnesota ASD and/or EBD teaching license

  • Experience, interest and/or expertise working with students on the autism spectrum, varied learning styles and levels of mastery

  • Experience in differentiation, using creative teaching techniques from projectbased to direct-instruction in developing personalized learning plans for each student
