Description

SUMMARY:    To facilitate the required activities such as the special education referral process, diagnostic activities, placement decisions, and program planning.  Consult with regular classroom teachers, special education teachers, parents, administrators, and Student Assistance Team. Consult with related service providers concerning placement and programming for a child with a disability.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the building principal (Student Assistance Team) as requested, with screening of referrals by teachers to determine the extent of testing/evaluation necessary, and to recommend alternative teaching strategies/resources as appropriate by coordinating meetings, paperwork, and communication of vital information. 
  • Stays informed about and follows District, State, and Federal rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Prepares case management paperwork necessary after referral of students, records proceeding of meetings and distributes copies to the primary providers and the appropriate involved personnel.
  • Assists Administration with assigning case management.
  • Assists with special education evaluation, when necessary, and provides information as needed to the IEP team. 
  • Organizes, conducts and chairs the building Child Study Team.
  • Works with regular classroom teachers, primary providers and related service providers on a consult basis to assist with students, teaching strategies, resource materials and teacher in-service as requested.
  • Assists with the public relations aspect of special education, including advising parents, teachers, administrators, etc. regarding process/procedure of Student Support Services.
  • Serves as liaison and/or assists other designated liaisons regarding out-of-district placements and court-placed students, attending out-of-district IEP Team meetings, etc., when necessary.
  • Serves as a participating member of relevant in-district and out-of-district committees and teams as directed or approved by Administration.
  • Attends district meetings as scheduled by Administration.
  • Regularly scheduled communication with the Director.
  • Serves as the Administrative Designee at IEP meetings and regularly communicates with Administration.
  • Other duties as assigned.
