Position Description/Qualifications:

  • The purpose of this position is to plan and implement a program of instruction that adheres to the school’s philosophy, goals and objectives. The preschool teacher must understand and promote education and early childhood development as defined in Small Wonders Policies and Procedures, Minnesota’s Early Childhood indicators of progress, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation Standards, and Minnesota Parent Aware Standards. The preschool teacher is responsible for all aspects of planning, evaluating and instructing child development/school readiness skills as assessed appropriate to the needs of the children enrolled in the program.
  • Maintain a cooperative attitude of working together with the assistant, volunteers, parents, and other program specialists in planning and implementing activities
  • Set up and maintain a well-organized, safe, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children.
  • Maintain primary responsibility for the lesson planning, environment, data collection and record 
  • keeping associated with highest quality developmental/educational programming for the students in his/her classroom. 
  • Responsible for developing and implementing an ongoing program of activities that promote the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child enrolled
  • Document weekly lesson plans with sufficient detail to demonstrate alignment with developmental objectives, broad coverage of all content areas, and accommodation for individual interests and needs 
  • Assesses student for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations and goals & to provide data for implementing specific needs in the curriculum. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with 36 credits in Early Childhood.
  • Strong working knowledge of NAEYC guidelines and regulations as well as Minnesota’s Early childhood indicators of progress.
  • Able to work with small and large groups, one-on-one, and in multiple school settings.

Pay Rate:

  • $23.46 – $28.34 per hour (depending on education and experience) Rate subject to change once the SW Instructors contract settles for 2023-2025 
  • This position is considered casual and is not benefit eligible
