Paraprofessional

Paynesville Area Schools is in search of a paraprofessional to join our Secondary School team for the 2023-2024 school year. 

JOB SUMMARY:

To assist teachers in providing curriculum support to students with behavioral and/or learning disorders, students performing below their grade level to maximize their academic success; and to assist special need

students with mobility, self-care, communication and social interaction needs to maximize participation in classroom activities. 

 

ASSIGNMENT:  Hours vary during student contact days

            F.  Assist in supervision of classrooms and hallways.

Assist in office, nurse’s office, and preparation of materials

            A.  Cover breaks, lunch, etc. for office personnel and nurse.

            B.  Recording text and AR books onto tape.

            C.  Assist teacher with preparing needed materials and supplies.

Physical Involvement:

A.  Position requires prolonged position in any combination of body postures, such as squatting, stooping, bending (both sitting and standing), kneeling, or sitting on the floor while performing student care, classroom activities, or transfers.

B.  Position may occasionally exert in excess of 50  lbs. during diapering, removal or physical restraint of students.

 

Mental Involvement:

A.  Position requires reading and explaining directions.

C.  Position requires handling multiple tasks.

D.  Position requires dealing with interruptions and distractions.

Working Conditions:

A.  Normal classroom conditions.

D.  Occasional diapering of students.

E.  Occasional exposure to students with emotional disturbances.

F.  Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, and noise.

Supervision of Other Employees: 

     A. This position does not include supervision or work direction of other employees.

 

MIMUMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:

  1. High school degree or equivalent.

  2. AA degree or demonstrate competencies under the Federal guidelines.

 

Experience:

  1. Prior experience within an educational system or working with children preferred but 

 not required.      

 

Special Knowledge or Skills: 

A.  Ability to work effectively with students of all grade levels in a positive manner.

B.  Ability and willingness to work with special need students.

C.  Ability to communicate effectively.

D.  Ability to read and understand directions.

E.  Have basic math and language skills.

F.  Have basic computer skills. 

G.  CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Prevention Intervention training preferred.

 

Equipment, Machines, Tools, Electronic Devices, Software:

A.  Photocopier used on occasional basis.

B.  Calculator used on occasional basis.

C.  Computer and printer used on occasional basis.

D.  Multiline telephone and fax used on occasional basis.

E.  Typewriter used on occasional basis.

G.  Sewing machine, serger, and kitchen appliances used on occasional basis.

F.  Operate adaptive equipment or assistive technology on occasional basis.

G.  Operate self-care equipment such as wheelchairs on occasional basis.

H.  Office equipment such as laminator, dye cut machine, opaque projector, paper

      shredder, copies, paper cutter, over head projector, CD-Rom educational discs used on 

      an occasional basis.

I.  Operate adaptive equipment or assistive technology on occasional basis.
