Job Summary – Instructional Coach:

  • Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of students during direct instruction.
  • Work with staff to implement a coherent curriculum aligned with district, state and national standards.
  • Promote use of consistent instructional framework and research-based instructional strategies, including developing/monitoring grade level Essential Outcomes.
  • Help build assessment systems that are aligned with curriculum and instruction priorities.
  • Model instructional strategies with teachers and staff in classrooms.
  • Make regular classroom visits to support instructional improvement.
  • Provide feedback to teachers and staff regarding instruction and implementation issues.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and administrator(s) to focus on reflective dialog that drives instructional decisions and improves student achievement.
  • Assist staff in securing, analyzing and interpreting data for promoting instructional improvement and student learning.
  • Perform other related work as required

Additional Qualifications:

  • Prior successful experience in urban, multicultural education desirable.
  • Demonstrates continued professional development through course work, research, peer collaboration, and/or job-embedded staff development.
  • Working knowledge of the subject matter, classroom management techniques, current researched best practices and strategies, as well as students’ learning styles and needs, both academic and affective.
  • Experience, at the secondary level with evidence of exemplary student achievement results.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, including a thorough understanding of research-based instructional practices related to student success.
  • Demonstrated skill in use of data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and human relations skills.
  • Demonstrated willingness to be an open and active listener.
  • Strong technology skills.
  • Evidence of effective listening, written and oral communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills when working with staff, students.
