POSITION: SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER – (FTE 1.0)
LOCATION(S): Districtwide
 
 
Description:  The School Social Worker is responsible to collaborate with teachers, directors and other administrative personnel to provide the highest caliber of services to students. The Social Worker will work to maximize school success for students by impacting their personal, social and emotional needs at home, school and in the community.

Job Summary:

  • Assess student functioning, both formally and informally, in home, school and community, identifying factors that may negatively impact his or her education while also assessing student strengths.
  • Provide counseling to individuals, groups and families using appropriate therapeutic strategies.
  • Promote consistent school attendance.
  • Provide crisis intervention services for students, demonstrating skill in diagnosing and recommending appropriate treatment for mental health/behavioral needs.
  • Consult and collaborate effectively with community agencies and other mental health professionals to coordinate services.
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams, and provide consultation to school personnel regarding home, neighborhood and community conditions that may affect student well-being.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of district, state and federal policies, including due process guidelines and child abuse/neglect reporting.
  • Maintain records and billing in a manner consistent with district practices.
  • Work efficiently, cooperatively, and effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment and with a variety of groups including students, parents, general education staff, behavior specialists, and outside agencies
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Work well with persons of different cultures, races, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Develop program components to meet student needs on a continual basis.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with students, schools, parents, and outside agencies about students’ needs utilizing these linkages to develop effective school program components.  
  • Refer, initiate, and write student evaluations as appropriate.
  • Participate in child study meetings as necessary.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.
  • Uphold the ethical standards of the Social Work profession.
     

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minnesota Board of Social Work Licensure (LSW), Clinical Level preferred (LICSW)
  • Minnesota Board of Teaching License
  • Master’s of Social Work preferred
  • A minimum of three (3) years of previous experience working with children and families in a school setting
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of students in a calm, patient, understanding, creative, flexible, student-centered environment
  • Skill in planning, organizing and writing evaluations in a multi-disciplinary team within timeline constraints
  • Good human relation skills, team player and professional demeanor
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Proficient with basic computer programs including but not limited to Google and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information at all times.

Hours:
M-F, regular school hours
Additional hours as needed to fulfill duties of this position
