School Counselor
Schedule: Mon- Fri 7a-3p 173 days (teacher days) + 22Â addtional days – 195Â total
Position Summary:
The K-12 School Counselor will promote student success, provide preventative services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students.

Develops and Manages a Comprehensive School Counseling Program – –Â

Registers and orients new students to the school procedures and the school’s varied opportunities for learning.

Uses data to develop a comprehensive program that meets student needs.
-
Develops and maintains a plan for effective delivery of the counseling program based on research-supported methods and current school needs.

Communicates regularly with the Secondary Director regarding the status of the school counseling program.

Communicates the goals of the school counseling program to stakeholders (administrators, teachers, students, families, etc.)

Conducts a yearly program audit to review the extent of program implementation and effectiveness.

Collects and analyzes data to guide program direction and emphasis.

Delivers School Counseling Services – –

Assists all students, individual or in groups, with developing academic, career, and personal/social skills goals and plans, as appropriate.

Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data.

Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning, as appropriate.

Works with PSEO students to ensure Kaleidoscope Charter School (KCS) graduation requirements are met, as applicable.

Provides student information to colleges for admission, scholarships, and potential employers according to the provisions of the board policy on student records, as applicable.

Meets with representatives of vocational schools, academic colleges, and military services to discuss their programs and requirements and arrange meetings with students, as applicable.
Guidance Curriculum – –Â

Implements developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals.

Incorporates life skills that students need to be successful in the real world into the program.
System Support – –Â

Provides appropriate information to school personnel related to the comprehensive school counseling program.

Assists teachers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data.

Participates in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
Â
Preventative and Responsive Services – –Â

Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs.
-
Implements an effective referral and follow-up process as needed.

Accurately and appropriately uses assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services.
Â
Leads Student Registration and Scheduling – –Â
-
Inputs the master schedule into the student management system after receiving it from the Secondary Director.Â
-
Develops a Registration Guide detailing secondary courses as well as policies and procedures related to registering for courses.
-
Communicates registration processes to students and ensures that secondary students register for courses, if applicable.
-
Completes transcript analyses of current and new students to ensure that graduation requirements are being met, if applicable.

Create schedules for all individual students in the student management system.Â

Works with staff members to troubleshoot student management system issues related to enrollment, schedules, attendance, and report cards.

Four-year degree

Master’s Degree or working on internship/program

Valid Minnesota School Counseling License
