Job Summary:          ROCORI counselors provide necessary services to support the district’s mission statement. Given the social/emotional issues of this mission, counselors provide individual and group counseling, and/or consultation services to students, staff, and parents. The Middle School Counselor is responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of the overall counseling program in the middle school.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Â
- Individual Counseling Services
- Assists students with personal growth and development.
- Conducts Sixth, Seventh grade, and new student orientation. Conducts intake interviews and follow-up.
- Works with students with academic difficulties.
- Performs evaluation and interpretation of tests and school records.
- Performs crisis management as required.
- Provides career information to students.
- Acts as mandated reporter for the Middle School.
- Small Group Counseling
- Helps students with self-awareness and self-concept development.
- Guides students on developing Interpersonal relationships.
- Assists students with improving communication skills.
- Group Guidance
- Career awareness and providing of occupational information of particular interest to students.
- Provides and communicates test interpretations.
- Leads peer group counseling.
- Student Records
- Keeps current accurate records of student progress.
- Testing
- Helps orient
ingstudents to testing programs. - Conducts testing sessions.
- Interprets test results for students and makes data available upon request to parents and appropriate staff.

- Assists with procedures for registration of students in courses.
- Conducts the registration process for middle school students.
- Communication
- Disseminates information to parents, students, and staff.
- Assists with parent education/information.
- Conducts parent conferences.
- Is aware of outside resources available to students and families.
- Actively works to increase awareness, sensitivity, and communication among counselors and other staff.
- Special Education Involvement
- Works with students with behavior and mental health needs.
- Provides educational alternatives for gifted and talented students.
- Assists with District drug and health programs.
- Assists with Special Education.
- Consultation with Staff – Parents
- Provides assistance to parents with referrals to outside resources.
- Works with parents to communicate and assist with the Individual needs of students.
- Works with parents to coordinate of efforts between home/school.
- Assists with grouping students by ability.
- Maintains confidentiality of students’ personal and educational development.
- Responsible for participation and implementation in and of District Chemical Awareness Programs
- Assists with District-wide consultation/coordination of programs.
- Participates in preventive programs for K-12 students and parents.
- Promotes family wellness concepts in regard to the school’s commitment to responsible use of chemicals.
- Provides intervention services.
- Provides aftercare programs for students coming out of treatment centers.         Â
- Evaluates and Assesses the overall Counseling Program.
- Other duties as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Master’s degree in school counseling or related field.
- School counselor licensure.
- Minimum 3 years of school counseling experience in a public education environment preferred.
- Ability to understand and comply with all protocols related to data privacy and mandated reporting.
- Ability to aptly assess and diagnose student intellectual, social and/or emotional development.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Knowledge and experience using varied computer applications and applied technology experience.
