Position Description:
The Power of Youth Program Leader facilitates six weeks of stimulating and developmentally appropriate service learning for students recently completing grades 6 -8.  This position is responsible for designing and delivering programming with a core foundation of collaboration, self-discipline, leadership and life skills with specialized skill development in topics of interest to middle school youth.  Students meet from 8:00-Noon, Monday through Thursday to plan, design and implement community-wide service learning projects. The Program Leader will support students in choosing a summer fundraiser and learning about local organizations who benefit from fundraising to provide community services important to youth and families. A core framework and curriculum will guide the Program Leader’s planning and student interactions.

Position Requirements:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, with coursework or completed training in youth programming preferred.  Successful work experience with children in target age groups required. Digital literacy proficiency required with ability to mentor technology skills in youth and do basic software and hardware problem-solving. Highly developed interpersonal and organizational skills are necessary to succeed in this position. A dependable, successful past work history with target age groups required, including program development and planning in a community-based youth programming environment.  Must provide own bicycle and helmet for Power of Youth service trips. Position requires a current CPR and first aid certificate be held or obtained within an agreed upon timeframe of employment. Successful candidates must be available for all 7-weeks of programming which includes the orientation week.

Language Skills: Demonstrate proficiency in the English languageusing positive body language and tone of voice.  Read, write, and comprehend instructions, short correspondences and memos.

Physical Demands: Mobility and ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds. Hearing, speech, and sight are required. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Other Skills & Abilities: The Program Leader must possess skills in building quality relationships with children and be able to maintain cooperative staff partnerships; display flexibility in day-to-day situations; contribute to a positive team environment.  Maintain the confidentiality of all information regarding students.  Provide parent communication as appropriate concerning program activities and child participation in daily activities.  Perform duties with a structured daily schedule and with an awareness of program standard operating practices, district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Schedule:
4 days per week / 7:45 am-12:45 pm Monday – Thursday. No Friday programming.

Required Orientation Week:  June 10 for 20 hours, schedule to be determined
Program Weeks for Students: June 17 (no programming on June 19th), June 24, July 8, 15, 22 and 29th
   *No programming for week of July 1st.

Pay Rate:
B-2-1 
$16.87-$20.31 per hour depending on experience
