Description

The Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Public School is looking for dedicated members who want to make a difference in the lives of each and every student who walks through our doors.  We are a hours drive from St. Cloud, 2 hour drive from the Twin Cities, 30 minutes for Alexandria, and 3 hours from Duluth. We are surrounded by area lakes, parks, and have one of the last Drive-In Movie theatres in Minnesota. We have a diverse community consisting of European, Mexican, Caribbean, and other nationalities. Fifty two percent of our student population identifies as Hispanic. Todd County is also home to an active Amish population. We serve the communities of Grey Eagle, Burtrum, and Long Prairie.

We are part of a grant called Cohort 19 to help with that implementation.  We were also one of the first schools in Minnesota to offer College in the Schools.  We have a high quality CTE program that includes a nationally recognized program.  We exceed the state average in meeting the needs of our English as a Second Language Students.  We provide afterschool and summer supports for our students who need additional assistance.  We provide an array of athletic, artist, and academic opportunities for our students.  We may be a small school but we provide big opportunities.

Paraprofessional-Bilingual Preferred (but not required): The qualified applicant will work directly with the LPGE Instructional Staff to help meet the learning needs of the students.  These positions are Monday through Friday
Qualifications: All education assistant applicants must have completed at least one of the following three requirements:                                       

  • At least two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education; or
  • An associate degree or higher; or
  • A¬†paraprofessional certification

Position Purpose

 

Р Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives, and to free certified professional employees from non-professional duties such as proctoring study halls to enable them to make a contribution to other aspects of the educational program, such as curriculum development.

 

 

Essential Job Functions

 

Р Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills. 

 

Р Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.

 

Р Assists professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.

 

Р Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.

 

Р Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.

 

Р Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.

 

Р Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.

 

Р Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.

 

Р Constructs, copies and distribute and use educational materials as needed.

 

Р Assists teacher with parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.

 

Р Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement if IEP objectives, etc.

 

Р Participates in IEP process and serves as resource for the student personnel evaluation team as needed.

 

Р Assist students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities.

 

Р Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.

 

 

Additional Duties:

 

Р Assist guidance, pupil services staff or building administration, as needed.

 

Р Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Profile

 

Р Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.  Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

 

Р High School diploma or equivalent.

 

Р Successful completion of college level coursework or passing of examination as required by the No Child Left Behind Act.

 

Р Prior experience working with special needs children desirable.
