Three Rivers Montessori is looking for a full-time Montessori Teacher to serve our combined classroom of 4th through 6th grade students for the 2024-2025 school year. We are a public tuition-free elementary school serving students from Elk River and the surrounding communities. We are looking for a dedicated and passionate individual to support our mission of  “Empowering students to reach their full potential through authentic Montessori learning.” 

 

This full-time position includes 75% medical and dental benefits employer paid for the individual, 10 holidays paid, 75% employer-paid retirement, 100% life insurance, 100% long-term disability and short-term disability options, a generous discount for staff children in our private preschool program, plus additional optional benefits. In addition, teaching staff accrue two days of PTO per month. Employees are paid twice monthly on the 15th and last day of the month. This position includes Summers, holidays, and school breaks off.

Summary of Position

Three Rivers Montessori’s classroom teachers are an instrumental part of the fabric of our school setting. To be effective, you will need to collaborate, manage multiple tasks, and intuitively problem solve to identify specific student needs and create individualized Montessori instruction to support each unique learner.

 

Our team members are passionate about Montessori and providing an authentic experience for their students. We offer in-house partnership with an AMI Montessori certified mentor to guide your first year of teaching in a Montessori classroom. We work to cultivate a culture where we all learn and grow together. 

Job Duties

Primary Purpose: Conduct instruction according to student needs.  Develop instructional materials, and strategies and implement instruction, to enrich and engage students in rigorous, relevant learning.  Provide an honest, respectful, caring, and safe environment for students.  Responsible to meet the mission, vision, and values of the school.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for effective lesson structure and design consistent with school and state standards

  • Establish curriculum plan and deliver lessons with clearly defined structure, precise learning targets, planned follow-ups, observations, and effective pacing for all students’ success 

  • Application of the Montessori Method and knowledge of the planes of childhood development (with support from AMI certified Montessori Mentor)

  • Utilizes Montessori didactic materials and resources (with support from AMI certified Montessori Mentor)

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the integration of subject and support services, such as Special Education

  • Maintain professional competency in assigned subject areas

  • Record and maintain up-to-date student progress in school designated platforms, Transparent Classroom and JMC

 

Maintenance of classroom environment:

  • Ensure the classroom environment and materials are orderly 

  • Space is provided for individual study, small group, and large group gatherings

  • Children work independently and collaboratively, promoting a sense of community, with an appropriate balance of freedom and structure 

  • Provides instruction to students in a manner which incorporates best teaching practices

  • The teacher is approachable and engaging, responding to the student’s needs as a group and individually

  • Develop and communicate outcomes of daily lesson plans, emphasizing concepts and skills appropriate to the content at all times

  • Maximize student participation by providing relevant cultural, contextual, and other connections

  • Select objectives at the correct level of difficulty for each student; provide multiple opportunities for learning, practice, and differentiation based on learning levels

  • Monitor student learning, provide specific timely feedback, and ask questions to encourage critical thinking

  • Demonstrate use of performance assessments, and rubrics tied to learning targets 

  • Provide remediation based on quantifiable data points

  • Use technology effectively to accomplish work and student learning; maintain and account for equipment for student use

 

Establish and maintain positive working relationships with the students and support staff  in the classroom:

  • Demonstrate appropriate classroom management, and human relations skills with a focus on building respectful, caring, and kind relationships; be a role model to students in handling difficulties

  • Ensure a clean, safe, orderly, and attractive classroom environment comfortable for learning

  • Communicate and ensure high expectations for appropriate behavior and a positive classroom environment encouraging student responsibility, cooperation, and respect for self & others

  • Adhere to procedures/legal requirements and respond to student misbehavior proactively, appropriately, respectfully, and with care

    • TRM utilizes the Responsibility Centered Discipline program and approach school-wide

 

Communicate effectively with parents/families through conferences, written documents, telephone, and other forms of communication:

  • Maintain effective working relationships with staff to meet the needs of students

  • Collaborate with support staff and teachers; work effectively with Special Education and intervention staff and attend meetings; communicate accurately and constructively while preserving confidentiality

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in professional development activities and evaluation programs 

  • Maintain all records according to school policy and procedures; at all times maintain the confidentiality of information

  • Responsible for the safety and security of the work and student environment; including following all emergency drill procedures

  • Attend and participate in all school and after-school activities related to your grade level and content area or as requested by administration

  • Responsible for professional work habits, attire, and conduct including being on-time daily, ensuring absences are reported promptly, meeting all school deadlines, following the staff handbook, and adhering to school procedures and expectations

  • Perform all other job duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Valid Minnesota teaching licensure in respective area (Grades 4-6)

  • Ability to obtain a lower-tier license with the school if necessary

  • AMI or AMS Montessori certification or willingness to work toward certification with school support within 1-2 years of hire

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
