Effective immediately, South St. Paul Schools is hiring for a Middle School Intervention Teacher for the Summer Learning Academy. Summer Learning Academy runs from July 8 – July 25; Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 12:00pm (4 hours/day). The rate of pay for this position is $31.50/hour.

Job Summary

Support the District’s instructional program by assessing the academic deficiencies of the students,
planning remediation in reading and/or mathematics, and delivering supplemental instruction.
Job Functions

  • Plan daily lessons and deliver direct instruction and reinforcement of foundational skills.
  • Select appropriate instructional materials to match student goals with skill objectives.
  • Collaborate and confer with classroom teachers to support students’ instructional needs.
  • Adhere to all district policies and procedures.
  • Support the district’s mission, vision and values.
  • Use appropriate classroom-based formative assessments and standardized assessment measures to
  • identify student strengths and weaknesses, inform instruction, and monitor progress.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records to document and monitor progress and growth.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and
  • interests of the students.
  • Deliver the district’s written, taught and assessed curriculum.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills with 1B Program changes and updates.
  • Develop procedures and routines which allow for instruction of individuals and small groups.
  • Develop essential agreements for classroom behavior in accordance with district policy and guidelines
  • and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Participate in educational plan preparation for children referred to the building’s student intervention
  • team.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to report student progress to parents.
  • Strive to maintain and enhance professional competence through professional reading .
  • Collaborate with leaders to facilitate professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Current Minnesota Teaching in reading and math at the middle school level.
  • Reading or Mathematics licensure preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with International Baccalaureate Program.
  • Spanish as a second language preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience in remedial/intervention curriculum development and instruction.
  • Ability to employ appropriate evidence-based (scientifically proven) intervention strategies for
  • struggling learners.
  • Knowledge of MN Academic Standards in mathematics and standardized assessments (MCAIIIs,
  • NWEA MAP).
  • Effective oral and written expression.
  • Demonstrate collaboration and relationship building skills.
  • Strong communication skills verbally, orally and written.
  • Ability to access, analyze and interpret assessment data.
  • Experience with differentiated instructional materials to engage students in learning.
  • Excellent technology skills.
  • Commitment to working effectively with culturally, economically and socially diverse students and
  • families.
  • Use of technology and computer-based programs for skill reinforcement.
  • Ability to design and use individual and small group instruction within a larger class setting.
  • Experience with implementing progress monitoring tools and the effective use of results to inform
  • instruction.
  • Demonstrate prompt, regular and reliable attendance.

Physical Requirements

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach
with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Vision abilities required
include close vision.
