Summary

This is a full time position teaching Middle School Science for 7th and 8th grade. Classes at Northeast College Prep range from 15-25 students. The Middle School Science Teacher will teach an advisory class, departmentalized science classes, and intervention groups during daily WIN time to approximately 70 seventh and eighth grade students. They will also supervise recess and be a part of a small middle school team of three teachers.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrate high proficiency and expertise in science

  • Demonstrate expertise in meeting middle school students’ academic and social-emotional needs 

  • Build strong relationships with students; commit to facilitating Advisory and Closing Circles to capitalize on relationship-building and community-building opportunities

  • Be a part of a middle school team that will teach content area classes, supervise recess, teach social emotional learning lessons, and provide targeted interventions 

  • Contribute positively to the middle school team of adults who work closely to create a positive and productive student learning experience

  • Promote and maintain a professional and positive environment

  • Establish and maintain strong communication lines with parents/guardians

  • Seek to improve their practice through coaching feedback and ongoing reflection 

  • Create a classroom/group environment in which every child can succeed and which establishes high academic and behavior standards

  • Implement and support the school-wide approach to classroom management and discipline

  • Teach all approved curricula with fidelity, differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students 

  • Participate fully in all professional development, Professional Learning Communities, and staff meetings 

  • Administer and use assessment data to make instructional decisions

  • Prepare and maintain appropriate records, report cards etc. 

  • Provide quantitative and qualitative information regarding student progress at request of Child Study Team 

  • Attend IEP meetings as needed 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Have or be able to obtain a Minnesota Middle Level (5th – 8th grade) science license (or be eligible to be licensed by the State of Minnesota) upon hire

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Ability to work with diverse student and staff populations

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching urban, English language learning middle school students 

  • Fluency (ideally) or proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, Somali or Hmong

  • Responsive Classroom and/or Catalyst trained 

 

Compensation: 

A competitive salary and full benefits will be offered. Starting salary for 2023-2024 was $42,664 for candidates with a bachelor’s degree and $47,998 for candidates with a master’s degree. A full salary schedule is available upon request.

Northeast College Prep (NECP) is a diverse, Kindergarten – 8th-grade public charter school with approximately 380 students. Our mission is to ensure strong academic, social-emotional, and talent development in every member of our diverse student body, thereby positioning each student for college graduation, career success, and positive community impact.

 

Founded as a diverse school committed to both strong academics and social-emotional learning, our curious students learn about themselves and the world around them.  All students take Art, Spanish, Arabic, and Physical Education.  Social-emotional learning lessons are explicitly taught and woven throughout the day and we partner with community organizations to develop each students’ unique talents.
