JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE: Middle School Classroom Math Teacher

 

SUPERVISOR: Administrator

JOB SUMMARY: Provide classroom instruction in math in grades 7-8. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide instruction in math using appropriate instructional resources and technologies.

  2. Implement the goals and objectives of the school and specifically the middle level program.

  3. Follow school curriculum outlines/guidelines and/or state standards for curriculum area.

  4. Evaluate student performance according to system used by school.

  5. Promote student achievement; maintain required student records; make related reports to the principal as prescribed.

  6. Maintain contact and communications with parents of students and work with them in the development of each student.

  7. Perform classroom management duties; enforce school rules governing the conduct of students; take appropriate disciplinary action with students who do not follow rules.

  8. Enforce school guidelines in regard to health and hygienic conditions and practices in the classroom as they may affect the physical and mental health of students.

  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requirements: 

A valid Minnesota teaching license in Math for grades 5-8, 5-12.

3 or more years of classroom teaching experience

Preferred:

  1. Extensive knowledge of the core curriculum.

  2. Knowledge of educational philosophy, teaching methods and approaches, current researched best practices and strategies.

  3. Considerable knowledge of urban students’ learning styles and needs, both academic and affective.

  4. Applicable knowledge of multicultural, gender and disability fair curriculum concepts.

  5. Working knowledge of instructional technologies.

  6. Experience in classroom management and organization.

  7. Working knowledge of various classroom presentation techniques.

  8. Skill in maintaining records and developing reports.

  9. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  10. Ability to plan and implement lessons based upon school goals and objectives.

  11. Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations.

  12. Ability to interact effectively with students, parents, school staff, administration and community members of diverse ethnic/racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  13. Ability to evaluate student performance and present evaluations in a manner that fosters higher student achievement.

  14. Ability to work in a cooperative learning/teaching environment.

  15. Ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology as appropriate.
