Summary

The Physics teacher will provide instruction and supervision to secondary students. The Physics teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive Physics Curriculum according to the school’s program objectives to instruction that is coherent, purposeful and engaging; and continually assess student development and performance; prepare and provide feedback on student progress to student and family. Contribute to the life of the school outside the class.

Responsibilities

Planning and preparation

  • Develop lesson plans that meet the requirements of the school’s academic plan
  • Design lesson plans that reflect differentiation in student learning styles and abilities
    Prepares instructional materials, books, equipment to adequately deliver lessons plans
    Prepares lessons that engage, meet individual needs and interests of students
    Provide adequate information, plans and materials for substitute teachers
    Maintain accurate, complete and appropriate records and files

Instruction and assessment

  • Prepare unit plans and conduct daily classroom instruction to appropriate instructional level
  • Uses a variety of methodology in teaching and instructing pupils, including lectures, demonstrations, discussions, lectures, and experiments.
  • Demonstrate effective use of science lab apparatus and equipments
  • Observe and evaluate student’s to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement.
  • Ability to use informal and formal assessments to monitor student performance.
  • Ensure instructional practice and curriculum foster critical inquiry, analysis, and evaluation
  • Integrate technology and media as appropriate to teach lessons that engage students.

Classroom Management

  • Organize the classroom and learning resources to create a positive learning environment
  • Clearly establish effective rules and procedures that mirror school wide expectations to help students identify expectations and appropriate behavior.
  • Maintain order and implement disciplinary actions for student misbehavior when necessary

Student and Family Engagement and Support

  • Maintain a healthy learning environment for the students both academically and socially
  • Ability to communicate, motivate and  build relationships with students
  • Provide feedback to student and parents on a student’s progress at conferences and other meeting

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use e-mail, internet and word processing software, spreadsheets, smart board technology, Google applications.
  • Work well with students and faculty from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to school values,code of conduct, policies and procedures.
  • Provide direction and supervision for all school activities to which assigned (coach, supervisor, chaperon, etc.).
  • Participate in the development and implementation of district goals and plans.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A valid Minnesota Teacher's License (applicable level-area endorsements preferred).
  • Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience.Teaching experience in diverse cultural settings is valued.
