Required Qualifications:
- Must have valid MN teaching license as a Licensed School Nurse
- RN Licensure in accordance with the MN Board of Nursing
- Currently registered as a Public Health Nurse with the MN Board of NursingÂ
- School nursing or public health nursing experience preferredÂ
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations
- Current training in CPR and First Aid
- Commitment to confidentiality regarding students and staff
- Skilled in developing and maintaining good working relationships with school personnel and the community
- Ability and skills to relate to students and be sensitive to their needs, to provide a positive behavioral atmosphere for students, to work cooperatively with individuals and teams
- Ability to use technology as part of curriculum and excellent communication skills with students, staff and parents
Responsibilities:Â Â
- Provides orientation, on-going support, supervision and evaluation of Licensed Health Specialists and other school personnel delivering health services
- Delegates to Licensed Healthl Specialists the performance of skilled nursing procedures, according to the MN Nurse Practice
- Participates in research and evaluation of school health services
- Administer medications in accordance with physicians’ orders and parent authorization, using district procedures and School Board Policy
- Communicate medication administration policies and procedures to parents
- Maintenance of health service records within the designated systems
- Evaluates and follows up screening findings-vision, hearing, growth, and Early Childhood Screening (ECS)
- Observes students for developmental and health related status; provides support, outreach, and referral to students
- Maintains, evaluates and interprets health data to access and accommodate individual needs in accordance with district policy and procedure and the MN Data Practices Act, HIPAA, FERPA
- Promotes and assists in communicable disease control through immunization programs, early detection, monitoring and reporting
- Provides on-going health counseling and health education to students and families
- Recommends and assists with implementation of school programs to meet students’ health needs, 504 plans, Individual Health Plans (IHP’s) and Emergency Care Plans (ECP’s)
- Participates with the crisis intervention team for acute illness, injury and emotional crisis
- Participates in the multi-disciplinary special education team. Completes health assessment, develops health component of the IEP(individual Education Plan)
