Job Title: K-8 Developmental Long-Term Adapted Physical Education Teacher (DAPE)

Location: South Elementary, North Elementary, and Saint Peter Middle School, St. Peter, MN

Duration: Mid-September to Mid-December

Job Description:

We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate K-8 Developmental Long-Term Adapted Physical Education Teacher to join our team in St. Peter, MN. This position is responsible for providing adapted physical education instruction to students with diverse developmental needs across three schools. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of child development, experience in adapting physical activities to meet individual needs, and a passion for fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with developmental needs, aligning with district and state standards.
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction as needed to ensure maximum growth and development.
  • Collaborate with general physical education teachers, special education staff, and other relevant professionals to create a cohesive and supportive educational experience for all students.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and progress.
  • Teach one period of general physical education daily at North Elementary School, demonstrating adaptability and a willingness to work with students of varying abilities.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive classroom culture that celebrates diversity and encourages all students to reach their full potential.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a related field required.
  • Valid Minnesota teaching license with an endorsement in Adapted Physical Education preferred.
  • Experience working with students with developmental needs is highly desired.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effective collaboration with colleagues and families.
  • Ability to adapt instruction and modify activities to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Passion for promoting physical activity and wellness in a supportive and inclusive environment.
