Job Summary

Working under the guidance of the building Principal, the Licensed Teacher encompasses a diverse range of instructional positions. Their primary responsibilities include:

  • Developing lesson plans and delivering the district’s curriculum in assigned instructional subjects.

  • Instructing students using these lesson plans and instructional materials.

  • Evaluating and assessing student progress to ensure alignment with instructional outcomes and objectives.

  • Licensed Teachers also actively engage in collaboration with other instructional professionals, administrators, parents, counselors, and district personnel to address student needs, tackle issues, support district learning initiatives, and contribute to curriculum and building-related matters.

Essential Functions

  • Delivers classroom instruction to students, incorporating essential instructional elements.

  • Provides instruction aligned with district curriculum guidelines and criteria, adjusting difficulty levels appropriately.

  • Regularly assesses student progress and makes necessary adjustments to instructional plans, techniques, and goals.

  • Teaches specific learning objectives.

  • Utilizes a variety of teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to meet the diverse needs of students and achieve district learning outcomes.

  • Plans and develops instructional materials, lessons, experiments, and support activities to deliver the approved district curriculum per district goals and objectives.

  • Determines the needs and abilities of students and selects methods and techniques to effectively deliver instruction within the assigned subject area.

  • Organizes classroom supplies and materials, performing basic cleaning and housekeeping tasks to maintain an optimal learning environment.

  • Evaluates student performance against established learning objectives, develop tests to assess performance, grade assignments, and conduct parent-teacher conferences to discuss student progress, challenges, strengths, concerns, and other relevant matters related to the student, family, and school.

  • Maintains student control and discipline within the classroom, on school premises, and during school activities by effectively communicating behavioral expectations. Implements a structured and consistent classroom environment to promote student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect in line with district policies and procedures.

  • Provides instructional leadership to support staff involved in classroom instructional activities. Assigns tasks, offers guidance, and oversees instructional support functions.

  • Collaborates with fellow educational professionals and administrators to address student needs, and instructional requirements, and explore new educational technologies and approaches to address student challenges, enhance learning, and improve curriculum.

  • Participates in building and district committees, task forces, administrative meetings, and IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings to contribute to curriculum development, evaluate student progress and performance, and engage in the decision-making and improvement processes at the school.

  • Performs other duties of a similar level or type as required.

  • Offers professional expertise and assistance to individuals, district staff, and the community regarding areas of instructional expertise and knowledge.

  • Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, and district and departmental meetings to stay informed about evolving developments, trends, and instructional and educational technologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of teaching principles, practices, techniques, and approaches.

  • Knowledge of child development theories, developmental stages, and needs.

  • Awareness of current trends, theories, and technologies related to learning and instruction.

  • Familiarity with assessment procedures, techniques, test construction, and evaluation methods.

  • Proficiency in the subject matter, concepts, and issues relevant to the assigned grade or subject.

  • Understanding of basic office equipment and software used by the district for record-keeping and file management, including word processing software and student record databases.

  • Knowledge of instructional technologies, software, equipment, tools, and devices for delivering instruction, documenting assessments, tracking student progress, and managing classroom administrative tasks.

  • Proficient in planning and developing lesson plans following the approved curriculum.

  • Skilled in presenting complex materials and concepts in an age-appropriate and understandable manner.

  • Proficient in designing assessment tools and evaluating student performance and needs.

  • Skilled in leading group discussions and facilitating instruction using various aids and technologies.

  • Ability to write reports, lesson plans, learning objectives, and tests, and contribute to the development and review of curriculum by applying professional/technical concepts, principles, and terminology.

  • Effective communication with parents, students, staff, and other educational professionals to address instructional needs, concerns, and student-related issues.

  • Handling interactions with children, staff, parents, administrators, and other educational professionals on matters related to students and the district, requiring persuasion, instruction, and collaboration to address educational issues and needs.

  • Providing advice and making recommendations to district administrators or committees regarding curriculum needs and learning approaches.

Supervision of Other Employees:

While this position does not entail direct supervision of other employees, it does provide indirect supervision for the Paraprofessional(s) in the classroom.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a relevant instructional subject area(s).

License: Licensed in the State of Minnesota in the instructional area.

Experience: Minimum completion of an assigned internship/practice teaching experience and degree program.
