JOB SUMMARY:  This position serves as a flexible substitute, assisting in classrooms, food service, or custodial tasks as needed. The main goal is to work closely with teachers, administrators, and team members to support student learning. Dedication to the community and a strong belief in every student’s potential for success are key attributes for this role.

ASSIGNMENT: Non-Certified

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

  1. Performs additional duties as needed by the school system, which may include providing paraprofessional support in classrooms, performing custodial tasks, or assisting in food service operations.

  2. Work with certified staff to support individual students or small groups, reinforcing the learning of materials or skills introduced in the curriculum.

  3. Monitors student work, corrects assignments, and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work, as directed by certified staff.

  4. Acts as a key resource for substitute teachers in the absence of regular certified staff, providing guidance and assistance as required.

  5. Alerts staff to any student issues or special considerations that may arise.

  6. Provides supervision for students during lunch periods, recess, and off-campus activities, as assigned.

  7. Assists with non-instructional classroom duties, including snack time, restroom breaks, and maintaining student attire, ensuring a conducive learning environment.

  8. Demonstrates ethical behavior and maintains confidentiality regarding student information within the school community.

  9. Motivates students to excel academically while fostering appropriate conduct, speech, and attire, and assisting with related tasks as necessary.

  10. Participate actively in meetings, professional development sessions, and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.

  11. Supports teachers in setting up and tidying classrooms for special events, ensuring a welcoming and organized learning environment.

  12. Takes responsibility for monitoring student behavior, enforcing school rules, addressing conflicts, and reporting incidents to the appropriate authorities.

  13. Assists with the preparation of instructional materials, including copying, organizing resources, and creating visual aids or bulletin boards.

Skills are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.

  1. Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.

  2. Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.

  3. Oral and written communication skills.

  4. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

  5. Knowledge of Google, Microsoft, and Skyward software is a plus.

  6. Ability to be assertive in situations needing behavioral improvement.

  7. Ability to identify emotional/social needs of students in addition to education/academic needs.

  8. Work with confidentiality and discretion.

Supervision of Other Employees: 

  1. This position is not responsible for the supervision of other District employees.

Working Environment:

  1. Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent required.

  2. Ability to successfully pass the paraprofessional proficiency exam within 3 months of hire or Associate Degree.

Experience:

  1. Not required, but prefer 1-2 years of experience working with diverse students in a curriculum support or tutoring capacity.
