Description

Job Summary: Assist the classroom teacher with instructional tasks and/or intervention, behavioral support and working directly and indirectly with students.  These tasks will constitute the major portion of the Educational Support Professional time.  This position will work with the Check and Connect program and will work directly with students.

Responsibilities and tasks include:  

  • Prepare charts, displays, bulletin boards and other instructional tools.
  • Assist in general classroom operational procedures such as setting up and operating audiovisual equipment, setting up physical education equipment, preparing and setting up art supplies.
  • Locate/organize supplementary audiovisual print and manipulate materials for use with individual student, small group or classroom instruction.
  • Work directly with students individually or in small groups on academic and motor or social skills, e.g., math, science, English, color recognition, decision making, self-esteem building, etc.
  • Assist students and teachers in large group activities/projects such as art, physical education, dramatics.
  • Seek out special instructional materials to assist with students having particular learning problems, e.g., separate math skill worksheet, not a part of teacher’s curriculum.
  • Type on word processor worksheets, tests, or various instructional material; duplicate and assemble.
  • Prepare requisition forms for lab supplies, e.g., cylinders, distilled water; records and maintain inventory.
  • Correct tests via computer.  Record results in grade books.
  • Set up lab equipment for student use; inform students of appropriate handling and safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by principal or designee.
  • Participation in district training program prior to and during employment.

Minimum qualifications include:  

  • Applicants must be Highly Qualified – Applicants meet the Highly Qualified requirement if they have:
    • Two years of study at an institution of higher education; Minnesota’s standard; A minimum of 60 semester credits or the amount required to complete two years of full-time enrollment as determined by the institution attended OR
    • An Associate’s (or higher) degree; Minnesota’s standard: An AA, AS, AAS, (or higher) degree OR
    • Received a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment within 30 days of your start date, working in a Title I school must be Highly Qualified in accordance with MDE
      • District will pay for the exam and up to 10 hours of prep and exam time.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Persons employed shall have the skills needed to perform tasks and work with children, staff and parents.

Work schedule: 6 hours/day; 5 days/week
