Lionsgate Academy is a public charter school open to students of all abilities in grades 7 through 12. Lionsgate’s programming is inclusively designed to address the unique learning needs of students living on the autism spectrum as well as students with other learning differences.

Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The EL teacher will be responsible for planning lessons and activities appropriate to individual EL students, creating an environment that is conducive to learning. The EL teacher will work closely with students encouraging communication through the use of structures and vocabulary they have learned and improving their language skills through listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with teachers, educational assistants, related service providers, and families within all four schools in our district located in North Saint Paul, Shoreview, and Minnetonka.
  • Creating and carrying out individualized language service plans for dual-eligible students through push-in, pull-out, and/or co-teaching.
  • Develop district Language Instruction Educational Program (LIEP) Procedure
  • Developing and supporting systems for addressing the needs of EL students and their families
  • Plan individualized EL instructions, lessons, and goals for EL students.
  • Administer ACCESS testing
  • Collaborate with enrollment administrative assistant to ensure newly enrolled students are identified for EL services if necessary
  • Conduct activities and lessons based on EL teaching methodologies and national and regional policies.
  • Motivate students and use humor to induce a pleasant learning environment.
  • Maximize students’ talk time through oral tests and presentations.
  • Display excellent classroom management.
  • Keep accurate records of student performance.
  • Work with a team on the continued implementation and development of EL programming for the education of 7th-12th grade students and our Transition-age students.
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships and use appropriate verbal, nonverbal, and written communication with all individuals.
  • Communicate regularly with IEP team members including staff and families, through in-person meetings, via email, and by telephone.
  • Organize district interpretation and translation services for important documents, IEP meetings, EL meetings, and important family communications
  • Schedule student-focused meetings through the management of an online calendar.
  • Track timelines for due process dates and organize due process paperwork.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • EL Certification
  • PELSB English as a Second Language Teaching License
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • Knowledge of various methods of teaching English to non-native speakers
  • Experience working with English Language Learners with disabilities
  • Ability to operate a computer and the software necessary to complete the required job tasks

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Special education licensure in MN
  • If not currently licensed, must be willing and eligible to apply for and receive a Tier 1 or 2 Teaching License
  • Experience, interest, and/or expertise working with students on the autism spectrum, varied learning styles, and levels of mastery
  • Experience in differentiation, using creative teaching techniques from project based to direct instruction in developing personalized learning plans for each student
