The Brooklyn Center Community Schools (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our Early Learning Team as a Early Early Learning Lead. The Early Learning Lead supports daily operations of the site by problem solving, work direction for staff, administrative  support, staff professional development, collaboration with Early Childhood Special Education supporting student needs, and additional support as needed. Work is performed under the general direction of the Early Learning Manager.

Essential Job Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate the day to day operations of the site by problem solving, directing staff and community partners. 
  • Support student needs and address behavior concerns from an equitable and strengths-based perspective. 
  • Support staff in addressing student behavior concerns with students.
  • Provide building access, and ensure program requirements are being met (i.e. attendance, meal counts, student to staff ratio, etc.).
  • When needed, deliver high-quality lessons to up to 20 students at a time, accommodating differences in developmental styles and learning or support students in transitions, meals, or unstructured play time.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students and colleagues to promote a positive program climate.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as creating registration systems, logging attendance, ordering supplies, gathering data, etc.
  • Ensure the physical, social and emotional safety of all students at all times.
  • Oversee Volunteers and Community Partners in Early Learning.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of social emotional curriculum. 
  • Determine appropriate response for behavior concerns and communicate the response with families. 
  • Effectively collaborate with other departments in the district (nutrition services, building maintenance, etc.)
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Duty Days: 240 Days, Schedule based on Class offerings

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience working with children preferred 
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred
  • General knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, and equipment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred: 

  • Preference coursework in early childhood education, or related field and minimal experience teaching or planning curriculum, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of child development and early education theories, principles, and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of effective teaching principles and methodology
  • Thorough knowledge of school and district rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Good judgment and decision-making.
  • Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to articulately deliver information both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Ability to relate and communicate effectively with people of different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Physical Requirements
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and exposure to bodily fluids; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
