OVERVIEW

District 196 is a state and nationally recognized public school district covering 110 square miles in northern Dakota County, Minnesota.  District 196 serves approximately 150,000 residents including more than 29,000 students in Early Childhood programs through grade 12 and approximately 11,500 Birth – 4 year olds.
 
Early Childhood Family Services, a program of Community Education, offers families with children birth through prekindergarten a variety of programs and services including Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), Connections Preschool (School Readiness) and Family School (Family Literacy).

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Minnesota Parent and Family Education license
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Teaching experience in developing, modifying and implementing curriculum, assessment and instruction for parents and their children birth to age seven
  • Skills in group facilitation and leadership with parents and/or children
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability and desire to work within a team
  • Ability to collaborate across district and community programs
  • Ability to develop and maintain respect and rapport with staff, parents and children
  • Experience developing and maintaining learning environments for children
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience in culturally proficient teaching

PREFERRED

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings or Saturdays
  • Experience with parents and children (birth to seven).
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.
  • Multilingual skills preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Facilitate the growth and development of parents and children (birth to seven) through content and opportunities that are culturally relevant and meet the standard of best practice and research. 
  • With Early Childhood educator, plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning activities for parents and children to do together and serve as a model for parent-child interactions. 
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated, evenings and weekends included. 
  • Assist parents with identified family needs.  Locate and share community resources with families. Seek the assistance of district and community specialists as required.  
  • Routinely perform continuing evaluation of the ECFS classes and activities with other staff members. 
  • Maintain and submit accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation. 
  • Participate in staff and team meetings.  
  • Actively participate in a culture of professional learning, program development and evaluation. 
  • Help maintain program environment and inventory of classroom materials and equipment. 
  • Initiate and maintain partnerships and cooperative relationships between early childhood programs and the community, school district programs, private and public organizations, and local and state agencies. 
  • Plan and participate in outreach activities as needed. 
  • Participate in program, advisory council and district committees as appropriate. 
  • Build professional knowledge of current trends and research in the field of early childhood and family education. 
  • Maintain and improve professional competence by membership in local and national professional organizations; keep current with professional literature and practices in the field of Parenting and Early Childhood Education. 
  • Work cooperatively with supervisors, colleagues, support staff and parents. 
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Compensation:
$40.00/hr. for student contact days, training and preparation on non-student contact days
