The Kasson-Mantorville School District No. 204 has an immediate opening for a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse for Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School.  

 

The salary for this position is $25.19 – $28.31 per hour.  The salary is based on qualifications and experience.

We are located between the cities of Kasson and Mantorville.  Kasson is the home of a vibrant downtown district and Mantorville is known for its historic presence in SE Minnesota.  The communities are fifteen minutes from downtown Rochester, home of the Mayo Clinic and IBM and approximately one hour south of the Twin Cities.

Position Title:          ES Nurse

Reports To:                Building Principal and LSN

Classification:            Support Staff Contract

Qualifications:             Licensure as LPN or RN

Position is 7 hours per day, student contact days.

Job Goal:  The nursing team will provide the best possible educational opportunity for each district student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate to maintain optimal health and well-being for each student in the district.

Team Responsibilities:
The nursing team will respond to all student healthcare needs in the district and provide coverage when needed to all district buildings.

1. Administer nursing care, emergency care and first aid within the state laws of their license, to individual students and decide if an individual student should be sent home, parents/guardians contacted, ambulance called or if other professional help is needed and notify Licensed School Nurse supervisor.

2. Safely administer medications to a student with the appropriate form on file with appropriate signatures of a parent/guardian and/or physician per school policy/procedure.

3. Complete required daily and follow up documentation. This includes any student seen in health services, medications administered, accident report forms completed per procedure and updating/maintaining student health records.

4. Distribution and collaborated development with the LSN of pertinent health bulletins to students, parents/guardians and/or staff.

5. Monitor and refer students with health problems to parent/guardian for appropriate follow up with a health care provider and notify LSN supervisor.

6. Under the delegation of the LSN, work with the nursing team to provide early childhood screening, vision and hearing program, immunization program, maturation program and other classroom programs for students and parents. Under delegation of the LSN, and as trained and supervised, will provide referrals and follow-up for individual students with health concerns, including vision and hearing concerns.

7. Assign and monitor nursing tasks or activities within scope of practice to unlicensed assistive personnel.  

8. Work and collaborate with the LSN/RN, as needed, with time sensitive health issues on a district level.

9. Maintain cumulative student health information files in each office.

10 .Maintain security of school health supplies and medications.

11. Order supplies as a team as needed for the offices.

12.Test and record monthly AED machine checks and take corrective action as appropriate.  Will notify LSN of any AED needs.

13. Participate, under LSN delegation, with in-service training programs for school personnel and classroom education for district students.  Provide health care information to individual teachers and students.

14. Maintain CPR certification and attend the mandated continuing education needed for nursing licensure.

15. Collaborate with the nursing team on developing best practice school health policies/procedures. Participate with others in the formulation of health policy/procedure and curriculum development for the district.

16. Report all student emergencies to the building site principal and the LSN.

17. Implement policies/procedures of exclusion and readmission of students connected with infectious and communicable diseases in collaboration/communication with the LSN/district nurse.

18. Assist with gathering information for student health care plans in collaboration with RN.  RN will write and sign care plans. Responsible for direct and indirect care given to an individual student in compliance with school district policies, professional standards of practice, physician’s orders and the Individual Health Plan and the Individual Education Program.

19. Monitor and data enter immunization records for district students. Contact and collaborate with parents/guardians, building administrator and district nurse when there are non-compliance issues.

20. Monitor ongoing student health conditions within the scope of their nursing licensure.  Examples are asthma, seizure disorders, diabetes, etc.  Inform and interpret plan of care (individual plan of care (IHP) and emergency care plan) as needed (based on legitimate right to know) to school personnel regarding deviations that may affect learning.

21. Follow all state and federal laws regarding data privacy information and child abuse/neglect reporting requirements.

22. Attend nurse’s meetings and actively participates in decision making for the nursing department with a team approach.  Exhibit an attitude that promotes teamwork in the nursing department.  Represent self and nursing department in a professional and ethical manner at all times.

23. Is the coordinator of the Emergency Response Team for their building, under the leadership of LSN.

24. Complete required state reporting to the State of MN following departmental procedure.

25. Employee is responsible to be knowledgeable about all district policies.  Takes professional responsibility for self-protection during required work tasks in potentially hazardous situations (ex: handling of blood and body fluids).
