Position:
Blattner Energy Arts Theatre (BEAT) Technical Manager

Position Purpose:
Under the direction of the Community Education Director and High School Principal, the BEAT Technical Manager is responsible for light, sound, audio/visual, and general equipment operations for all activities and performances taking place in the BEAT. This position is also responsible for training and supervising BEAT support staff and maintaining an accurate inventory of BEAT technical equipment. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee all technical operations in the BEAT. (70%)
    • Communicate with Community Education Coordinator to ensure all technical specifications are met for all BEAT Series performances and theatre camps.
    • Communicate with Principals and other Fine Arts Department Staff to ensure all technical specifications are met for all district activities.
    • Work cooperatively with BEAT Series performers, theatre camp facilitators and Fine Arts staff prior to and during performances.  
    • Participate in ongoing training of BEAT technical equipment.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise all BEAT Tech Support Staff. (20 %)
    • Train all incoming BEAT staff on operations of equipment.
    • Communicate with Community Education Director on recommended hires to ensure all new hire paperwork is processed.
    • Create staff schedule for events.
    • Supervise and direct BEAT Tech Support Staff during BEAT performances.
  • Ensure BEAT equipment remains in full working order. (10%)
    • Complete end of year inventory of all equipment.
    • Communicate with administration when/if equipment needs repair or replacement.
    • Ensure all individuals using equipment are trained on proper handling.

Equipment:
Uses specialized light, sound, and audio/visual equipment, which can be found here. Uses standard office equipment such as personal computer, copy machine, and telephone.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively run technical equipment utilized in a theatre setting.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and positive working relationships with others, including colleagues, staff, volunteers, students, and parents.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Interact with the public and community education employees in a consistent, fair, and respectful manner.
  • Work as an effective, reliable, and organized member of a team.
  • Adapt to and program for ever-changing community needs.
  • Ability to quickly problem solve when situations arise.
  • Ability to direct and manage staff in various tasks.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

  • Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working with similar light, sound, and audio/visual equipment.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with the light, sound, and audio/visual equipment currently used in the BEAT.

Additional Position Information:

  • Start Date: July 1, 2024
  • Schedule: This position requires employee to work weekend and evening hours.
  • Events the BEAT Technical Manager assists with include, but are not limited to, the BEAT Performing Arts Series Shows (6 events), Fall Musical, Spring Play, One Act Play, and PreK-Grade 12 Elementary Concerts and Ceremonies. This position also assists with the set up for Community Education events (theatre camps, BEAT Kids Series, special events, etc.)

Salary and Benefits:
Annual Stipend: $5,000
