Description

The Brooklyn Center Community Schools (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our team as a Behavioral and Mental Health Special Services Supervisor.  The Supervisor works directly with the Director of Special Services, Administrators, and all staff in order to best support students and families. The Supervisor is part of the Special Services department leadership team and takes an active role with oversight and support to the Special Services Department at the building/program level supporting a variety of specialized programming. The Supervisor ensures compliance efforts of special education grades PreK-12 and through age 22; ensures compliance with district procedures, state, and federal laws and processes; identifies areas of need and works to develop and implement programs to address those needs; supports and supervises licensed and non-licensed staff; provides program analysis and development; provides program implementation support; supports department and district professional development; is involvement with department and community events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Be the main building/program contact for special services, to include enrollments and programming placements.
  • Support the design, development, implementation, and monitoring of special services programming.
  • Ensure inclusive and least restrictive practices are in place for all students.
  • Foster relationships with families and staff in describing available district programs, developing
  • create plans and assure due process protections and procedural safeguards under IDEA, Section 504, and Minnesota Statutes.
  • Ensure educational settings are welcoming, safe, and responsive to student needs.
  • Assist with licensed staff hiring, onboarding, training development (PD), problem solving and daily oversight and mentoring; provide daily supervision and observation/evaluation support as directed.
  • Provide support, training, and modeling of compliant practices that promote an equitable school system for students.
  • Support department processes and practices, including reporting requirements, compliance requirements, staff mentoring, and continuous improvement planning and implementation.
  • Attend all Child Study Team (CST) meetings to guide evaluation decisions, staff needs, and problem solving. Support special services staff to ensure high-quality instructional practices.
  • Maintain regular collaboration with Director, school administration and building staff, and community partners.
  • Coordinate special projects as directed by Director.
  • Support and ensure third party billing processes and compliance.
  • Coordinate the school-based mental health supports to continually improve partnership, referral processes, and communication around services and supports received by students. 

  • Oversee  referrals for SBMH services and support the district’s Threat Assessment process with training, implementation and program monitoring

  • Support buildings and staff with crises, emergency response needs and follow-up services

  • Provide license supervision to BCCS social workers working towards advanced licensure.

  • Participate in and provide support to district, building and community teams on: the implementation of  mental health and social/emotional best practices within the tiered system of support; the impact of mental health within the school; providing evidence-based strategies to support students; addressing behavioral and mental health needs in the framework of restorative practices and non-exclusionary discipline practices 
  • ?Active participation in district-wide efforts such as Emergency Response, Threat Assessments, Wellness Team, Restorative Practices and Problem Solving Teams
  • Provide technical support to schools and communities on mental health services, interventions, referrals,  programming and concerns. 

  • Other duties as apparent or assigned, including covering for staff absences when needed.

Qualifications: Licensed through MDE in special education or related service field, Director of Special Education Administrative license required. Candidates pursuing a Special Education Administrative license are encouraged to apply.
