The Associate Director of Curriculum and Instruction supports the Director of Curriculum and Instruction in order to ensure a strong academic program that promotes the school’s mission and develops students’ abilities to think and create in personally meaningful ways through an inquiry-based, integrated curriculum in a nurturing environment. 

Reports to: ISLA Executive Director 

Schedule: 0.6 FTE

Supervises: Language Ambassadors (international interns)

Desired Education: Masters of Arts in Education, Curriculum and Instruction or related field 

Years of Experience: 5 – 8 years of classroom and administrative experience with demonstrated knowledge of inquiry based teaching
Position Type: 10 month, full time + 40 hours summer planning work, as determined with Executive Director
 

The Associate Director of Curriculum and Instruction will work in conjunction with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to support the following core areas. Based on the strengths and skills of both academic leaders, duties will be outlined annually and revised regularly to ensure a strong academic program: 

  1. Curriculum and International Baccalaureate Coordination: Oversee ongoing review, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and units of inquiry aligned with ISLA’s mission and vision, Minnesota State Standards and statutes, and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. 

  2. Teacher Development: Support hiring, onboarding, professional development, observations, and assessment of elementary teachers through strengths-based coaching, coordination of teacher mentors, active supervision and principles of adult learning.

  3. Data and Assessment: Facilitate school assessment and data collection planning, including analysis of student data at the individual, classroom, and school level in order to support effective instruction and differentiation.  Oversee completion and distribution of student progress reports.

  4. Student Support: Serve as a member of the Student Assistance Team (SAT), coordinate 504 plans, collaborate with the Special Education and Response to Intervention teams, and serve as a district representative in due process meetings as needed.

  5. Collaboration: Support training and teambuilding for collaborative practices; support grade level team meetings, department collaborations, co-teaching, peer observations, and vertical alignment of curriculum.  Provide outreach to the wider PYP community through participation in Minnesota Association of IB World School (MNIB) meetings; Collaborate effectively with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

  6. Leadership: Actively participate in the ISLA Leadership team and ensure effective programming across the school. Participate in the formation of the school’s strategic development plan.

  7. Program Oversight: Complete all academic reporting to the Minnesota Department of Education and school authorizer. Establish and maintain a record of completed planners.  Publish ISLA’s programme of inquiry. Coordinate International Baccalaureate self-study, evaluation, and authorization.

  8. Communication: Communicate with all shareholders (students, parents, teachers, administrators, district personnel) regarding procedures, requirements and policies, events and opportunities, and current progress of the programs via meetings, letters, blogging, submission of articles to school newsletters, and additional publications.
