JOB SUMMARY
The (AIPA) American Indian Program Assistant is a part time position that will serve as a connection between the district and (AI) American Indian students and their families. This position will assist with communication, planning, and support for our AI Students. The coordinator will prioritize areas of need for the AIPA to best serve our AI Students and Families
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
40% Provide support to students and their families to promote student success

Assist the Coordinator at the Middle School and Area Learning Center with student and family related needs

Provide resources and support to AI students and families
-
Using information gathered, the AIPA will schedule time with students and or student groups to work on success plans
-
Assist with a variety of communication methods to the students and families and when needed, do home visits
-
Provide support and assist Foster Parents, Grandparents, or other adults responsible for raising AI student(s)
-
Assist as needed with student field trips
25% Provide support for cultural classes, cultural activities and other events during the school year
-
Powwow, Young Artist Young Writers, FAFSA, College and Career Trips, Quiz Bowl, Drum Dance and AIPAC meetings
25% Assist with 506, JOM and Racial-Ethnicity forms/Grant Applications

Assist the Coordinator with the Federal and State application processes

Communicate with White Earth Enrollment for eligibility and tribal enrollment

Assist building administrative assistants with eligibility forms
-
Organize 506, JOM and Ethnicity forms by eligible and ineligible
-
Create a checklist containing all students in question of eligibility
-
Other duties as assigned
10% Assist with the AI Department’s Website and Social Media postings

Work with our social media person to add postings throughout the year
-
Manage the AI Website to keep it up to date
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE
Physical Involvement:

Position requires occasional stooping, sitting, standing and stairwalking

Position requires occasional repetitive motions in using electrical equipment/computers

Independent action: Must be able to make quick decisions to ensure the safety of others

Must be able to stay calm when working with families, students and groups of people

Must be able to keep respect in mind when it comes to cultural content

Must be able to make priority decisions from data and student support meetings when working with staff, students and families
Working Conditions:

Occasional exposure to airborne pathogens/students who may have a cold or flu

Occasional noisiness in the hallways or distraction of people/students walking by the room

Occasional smudging with with medicinal plants/herbs
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
-
4 year Bachelor degree, preferred
-
2 year associate degree, preferred
Experience:
-
Working with students in the grades of 6-12
Special Knowledge, Skills, Certifications, Licensure Required:
-
A general understanding of the American Indian Culture, Language, History and Traditions
-
Willingness to learn about the American Indian Culture of Detroit Lakes area
