Position Purpose
This position will teach a variety of subject areas to adult learners who are studying to achieve an Adult High School Diploma or GED as issued through the Minnesota Department of Education, who are working to enhance their English as a Second Language skills, or who are working to enhance their skills to increase their success in the workforce. This position will create a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment for all learners and assist all learners in being successful in their educational goals. 

Essential Functions

  • Oversees intake and orientation with adult learners at Albany Area Schools.
  • Develops and administers curriculum consistent with adult learning goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Coordinates with other ABE professionals to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in Central MN ABE Consortium training when possible. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as ability to differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students, specifically adult education. 
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and supervisor. 
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computer, copy machine, and telephone. 

Qualifications Profile
Current Minnesota K-12 teaching license required

Salary
Hourly, per AFT Master Agreement
