7-12 Spanish Teacher / K-12 EL Teacher

Paynesville Area Schools is accepting applications for a full-time Spanish/EL Teacher beginning the 2024-2025 school year. 

 

Requirements:

  • An appropriate MN professional teaching license (7-12 Spanish/K-12 ESL) or the ability to attain one.

  • Create and maintain an environment that promotes kindness and respect, is conducive to effective learning and meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.

  • Must have strong classroom management skills with the ability to maintain a positive learning environment. 
     

JOB SUMMARY: The certified teacher develops lesson plans, conducts classroom instruction, evaluates and assesses both instructional materials and student performance. The teacher meets with parents, interprets student progress, and informs parents about student strengths, weaknesses, and/or programs.

ASSIGNMENT: Full time with vacation days as indicated by the Master Contract.

 

% of MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

 

15% Develops and plans instructional activities.

  1. Develops lesson plans, and /or individual educational plans. 

  2. Develops student tests and evaluates results. 

  3. Determines student grades for instructional units. 

  4. Researches topics, materials, and information to improve instructional materials and information. 

 

70% Conducts classroom instruction based on established lesson plans or instructional units. 

  1. Develops and decides on methods, approaches, and instructional aids to present materials. 

  2. Evaluates and assesses student performance against lesson plans, need for re-instruction, or need for new approaches. 

  3. Reinforces materials previously presented in the classroom. 

  4. Determines grades for reporting purposes.
  5. Monitors student performance and behavior. 
  6. Decides if student behavior is appropriate and how to deal with behavior problems.

 

15% Professional responsibilities.

  1. Participates in parent/teacher conferences. Interprets student strengths, weaknesses and/or problems that child may be experiencing in the classroom. 

  2. Participates in meetings such as: building staff meetings, department meetings, grade level meetings, staffings, K-12 curriculum meetings, staff development meetings, open houses, and others as needed.

  3. Supervises students during the school day according to the established building supervision schedule as well as indirect supervision at all times during school activities and regular school day.

  4. Collaborates with other staff in evaluating individual student problems, approaches to instructional units, and new teaching technologies or procedures available. 

  1. Attends professional development activities and assists in identifying areas for further growth and development.

Physical Involvement: 

  1. Requires vitality to accomplish numerous tasks and processes.

  2. Position requires extended periods of standing when teaching or leading an activity.

  3. Occasionally requires extended periods of sitting during meetings and desk work.

  4. Occasionally requires bending, stooping, or sitting on the floor to perform classroom activities or to provide one on one assistance.

  5. Frequently performs keyboarding activities for classroom preparation or grading.

  6. May lift equipment or supplies typically not to exceed 25 pounds.

Mental Involvement:  

  1. Position requires working with many students who have varying levels of abilities and skills. 

  2. Position requires the ability to work with interruptions, handle multiple tasks and organize and prioritize work assignments. 

  3. Position requires interpersonal and conflict resolution skills in dealing with students and parents. 

  4. Position requires prioritizing work duties, organizing classroom settings, and taking initiative to explore new activities and ideas to enhance student learning.

Working Conditions:

  1. Classroom setting indoors in a school building with little exposure to extreme weather conditions (unless job related such as physical education)

  2. Requires ability to travel between buildings, within the building, and work area.

Supervision of Other Employees: 

  1. This position generally does not include the supervision of other teachers.

  2. Provides direction to instructional assistants/aides within the classroom setting

  3. Communicates with special education staff to assure appropriate programming for special needs students within the classroom setting.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 

  1. BA or BS degree required.
  2. Certification/licensure required: Minnesota Teaching License in area of teaching assignment
  3. Other desired: Multiple licensure and willingness to accept additional duties such as co-curricular assignments

Experience: 

  1.  Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required for the position of teacher.

Special Knowledge or Skills: 

  1. Ability to constantly make decisions and to act with some freedom but within the district and building policies and procedures / guidelines. 

  2. Ability to meet the needs of diverse learners, deal with classroom management, paperwork, and implement district, state, and federal mandates.

 

Equipment, Machines, Tools, Electronics Devices, Software: 

  1. Computer and various software programs, Television/VCR/DVD, overhead projector, phone, copy machine, and other equipment depending on area (science, industrial technology, etc.)
