General Definition of Work

The Early Childhood Parent Educator for the ECFE program will provide parent education and support for parents and children served in ISD 2835 Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) Program. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Early Childhood Coordinator and Community Education Director.

Essential Functions

  • Plan and implement structured parent education classes

  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction 

  • Work cooperatively with the ECFE Teachers and support staff. 

  • Handles confidential information appropriately 

  • Simple integration of technology into instruction. 

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Has strong knowledge base in the area of Early Childhood 

  • Ability to develop effective and positive working relationships with children, staff, administrators, parents, and the community. 

  • Maintain professional composure while dealing with a variety of personalities and situations. 

  • Show initiative and function as a self-starter. 

  • Effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisors and the general public.

  • Exchange or convey relevant and appropriate information and receive work direction constructively.

Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree, with MN teaching license and Parent Educator license preferred.

  • Experience in an ECFE program (preferred)

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of adult learning methods, group process, and group facilitation skills. 

  • Working knowledge of ECFE philosophy, goals, and objectives. 

  • Experience with teaming/collaborating with others in educating young children and supporting families. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication

  • Experience working with diverse populations. Demonstrate ability to be culturally and linguistically responsive

  • Good organizational skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive relationships with students, school, Community Education, parents, instructors, and community members.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting and using hands to handle or feel and occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision and distance vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to bloodborne pathogens (may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment), and exposure to bodily fluids; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
