SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Under supervision of the Youth Services Supervisor, the Youth Enrichment Coordinator provides professional level support to the Supervisor and the Department by assisting in the operation of program services, evaluating programming needs, surveys and data reporting, coordinating youth enrichment staff activities, and purchasing program materials. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the expansion, alignment, and successful implementation of OST programming. 
  • Support the coordination of processes for daily programming to include, but not limited to, scheduling, recruitment, retention, data collection, and reporting, behavior management, registration, and transportation. 
  • Assist in the implementation of nutrition offerings in YEP programming, including distribution and tracking. 
  • Performs various support functions, as assigned. Purchases curriculum materials, supplies, and equipment; maintains records.
  • In collaboration with the Program Supervisor, conduct ongoing student surveys and needs assessments. 
  • Performs various secretarial and administrative support functions, as assigned. Purchases curriculum materials, supplies, and equipment. 
  • Coordinates a variety of youth programs, classes, student services, community services, workshops, training programs, and after-school programs in support of SLP community education goals. 
  • In collaboration with the Program Supervisor, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates diversified enrichment activities for youth/families, adults; ensures activities meet the current and future needs of the department, district, and community. 
  • Promotes lifelong learning and markets programs, develops promotional media, flyers, e-marketing, and public service announcements; participates in community outreach programs, and promotes SLP community education. 
  • Coordinates daily functions of registrations, cancellations, payments, and associated communications with participants and instructors; manages deposits of cash and checks for fee-based programs. 
  • Engages, requests, and maintains contracts with community partners. 
  • Completes and coordinates special projects, grant applications, and research assignments. 
  • In collaboration with the Program Supervisor, maintains, and enacts site safety plans; conducts required drills. 
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records, and YEP information. 
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis 
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish the requirements of the position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Concepts, principles, and philosophy of lifelong learning, public education, and relationship of community education to K-12 programming.
  • Fundamentals of public relations theories and techniques in promoting, advertising, and/or informing the public of programs, services, courses, or other events/projects.
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures concerning facility use, requirements, and priorities.
  • Basic knowledge concerning the use of computers and related software applications and general business equipment.
  • Knowledge of resources and organizations within the community.
  • Knowledge of the theories, philosophy, and approaches to community education programming, evaluation, and implementation.
  • General knowledge of District administrative policies and procedures pertinent to the activities and programs of Community Education.
  • General knowledge of working with an equity lens and commitment to furthering personal and professional growth in equity.
  • Leading, delegating, monitoring, evaluating, and training volunteers and contract instructor’s/personnel employees.
  • Planning, evaluating, implementing, and coordinating the delivery of programs, activities, events, or services geared towards youth recreation and enrichment.
  • Planning and making arrangements for building use and scheduling requirements.
  • Applying judgment and discretion in handling problems and issues in accordance with the policies and procedures of the District and the department.
  • Promoting, advertising, and communicating programs, services, and activities.
  • Collaborating and working closely with committees, advisory groups, or community organizations in facilitating the planning of new events, programs, services, or events.
  • Using computers and related software applications and general office equipment, e.g., copiers, facsimiles and phones.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information, speak before groups and make presentations, to receive work direction, address or resolve issues/conflicts appropriately.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No direct supervision. May give work direction to classified personnel.
  • Indirectly supervises contract personnel, seasonal staff, and volunteers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

  • Requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience developing, implementing, supervising, or coordinating youth education programs.

  • Demonstrated leadership in education or related fields.

  • Demonstrated ability to integrate K-12 standards into basic experiential learning philosophy.
