Youth Enrichment and Engagement Coordinator: The Basement
Program Assistant Terms and Conditions of EmploymentÂ
Level 4: ($20.60 – $26.54 per hour based on qualification/experience)
42-weeks, 32.5 hrs/wk or 40 hrs/wk (possible evenings depending on program offerings)

Sandburg Middle School (6:45 am – 10:00 am) and FAIR Crystal Middle School (1:30 pm – 6:15 pm)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports the Basement Program Mission to: Provide a fun, safe enriching experience in a respectful and nurturing environment and promote life-long learning skills in all middle school students during out of school time.
- Plans, develops, implements, supervises, and evaluates diversified enrichment activities for middle school students.
- Manages daily functions of registrations, cancellations, attendance and associated communications with participants and instructors.
- Supports the Program Goals by:
- Providing opportunities for middle school students to succeed both academically and socially through the collaboration of the school and community resources.
- Providing a secure and inclusive environment in which all young people may explore the world around them.
- Providing opportunities from which all students learn to make choices that contribute to both their growth in life-long learning skills and their development into becoming respectful and responsible adults.
- Working with external vendors to provide youth enrichment opportunities
- Supporting families by connecting them with community resources.
- Fostering the individual growth and development of all youth.
- Providing middle school students with new experiences and involvement in their community.
- Leading engaging enrichment activities
- Maintains professionalism and confidentiality regarding staff, students and their families.
- Implements a philosophy of education and administration that is compatible with Robbinsdale Area Schools missions.
- Works with other programs regarding shared space.
- Prepares snack counts accurately and complete any required food service forms.
- Supervises The Basement program development and operations before school, after school, non-school days and vacation days.
- Develops and implements an effective and enriching anti-bias, inclusive environment and curriculum according to The Basement Mission.
- Maintains fiscally sound site budget by recruiting students and families to participate in The Basement programming.
- Trains, supervises, and evaluates site staff and assists in implementing staff development and teamwork.
- Maintains overall supervision of students and staffing ratio and adherence to DHS regulations.
- Assures that guidance policies are followed for all students regardless of ability or special needs.
- Establishes effective communication with students, their families, school staff, and community.
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- 60 college credits and 3 years’ experience working in education, youth development or related field OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
- Successful experience working with adolescent youth ages 11-14 years in groups.
- Experience in staff supervision, training and program development.
- Evidence of strong written and oral communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated competency in conflict resolution, crisis management skills.
- Commitment to multicultural, gender fair and disability awareness.
- Ability to encourage shared leadership, team building and collaborative working relationships within the site, building and overall program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in a childcare setting
- Experience creating and implementing lesson plans for middle school students
- Experience and passion for creative and engaging enrichment opportunities
- FAIR Crystal site: knowledge and ability to teach arts focused enrichments (video/media, photography, dance, theater, music, etc.)
