Job Title: COORDINATOR, TRANSPORTATIONÂ
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Plan, direct, implement, coordinate and evaluate all transportation for the District, ensuring safe, efficient and cost effective transportation for children.Â
ILLUSTRATED DUTIES: The essential functions of this job include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental job duties:Â
a) Develop, maintain and disseminate written District transportation policy and procedures. Interpret and administer existing transportation policies and procedures to staff, contracted bus company drivers and parents.Â
b) Manage the contractual relationship with the bus contractor to ensure the best possible system of transportation for eligible students according to District policy.Â
c) Develop and maintain a system to recruit, hire, train, direct, evaluate, discipline, and provide staff development for all District transportation department personnel (including bus paraprofessionals) in accordance with employee contract agreements.Â
d) Monitor all federal/state student transportation/bus safety regulations to ensure compliance. This includes limited oversight of contracted bus company compliance with safety regulations. With respect to District owned vehicles intended for transportation of students, establish inspection and usage programs in accordance with federal/state regulations.Â
e) Provide a system of transportation for all special activities including special education programs, field trips and non public transportation.Â
f) Maintain bus behavior student ticket system. Cooperate, collaborate and meet with bus drivers and school Principals in administering this system. Coordinate the use of school bus video cameras and distribution of video tapes to the appropriate district staff.Â
g) Communicate directly with parents regarding parental concerns about transportation issues. This involves extensive communication with parents and exceptional conflict resolution skills. This also commonly involves communication with other administrators, the superintendent and school board members.Â
h) Assist in identifying bus safety and other driver training speakers and materials for the contracted bus company driver training program.Â
i) Manage the preparation and updating of District maps for transportation, student census and boundary issues.Â
j) Coordinate with the Coordinator, Information Systems position by utilizing the Edulog computer system, maps and geographic knowledge of the District to assist in student census and boundary issues.Â
k) Assist the Director, Business Services in developing the annual transportation revenue and expenditure budgets. Prepare the final year-end student transportation report required to be submitted to the State.Â
Reports to:
a) REPORTS TO Senior Officer of Operations and System Alignment
b) SUPERVISES: Transportation office personnel and paraprofessionals and/or as assigned.
c) WORKS WITH: Principals, athletic directors, special education office, bus contractor, public safety officials at both the city and state levels, vendors, students, parents and community membersÂ
QUALIFICATIONS:Â
a) EDUCATION: Four year college degree and/or 8 years of related transportation knowledge, and abilities.Â
b) SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:Â
- Excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of public safety laws and regulations, pedestrian safety, school buses and community law enforcement and regulations.
- Able to work well with others.
- Experience in managing an organization’s mission and vision with staff and team to achieve the mission.Â
- Skilled in working with school, public and private, and citizens in providing transportation services.Â
- Experience in training and implementing applicable laws and regulations.
C) EXPERIENCES: Eight (8) years experience in public/private school transportation and supervisory experience.
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Individual Contract ($70,000 – $77,000), depending on experience
